With the 2018-19 high school basketball season firmly in the rearview mirror, we are proud to announce our All-Area selections for Northern Virginia.
Our staff would like to thank the players, coaches and fans who made the season – our ninth year of high school coverage – a success, and we look forward to many more. This team encompasses our Northern Virginia coverage area, which includes players at public and private high schools located in Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun and Prince William Counties.
And now, here’s our selection of Northern Virginia’s best of the best – the 2019 DMVelite All-Northern Virginia Team:
PLAYER OF THE YEAR: CHARLES THOMPSON, ST. STEPHEN’S & ST. AGNES 2019 FORWARD
The Towson-bound Thompson led the Saints to one of the most successful seasons in school history, as they claimed the Interstate Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles, as well as the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division I championship. He was named IAC and VISAA DI Player of The year.
COACH OF THE YEAR: MIKE JONES, ST. STEPHEN’S & ST. AGNES
In just his second year on the job, Jones led the Saints to their first Interstate Athletic Conference championship since 2007.

FIRST TEAM
ANGELO BRIZZI, HIGHLAND SCHOOL 2021 GUARD
Brizzi shined in his first year at Highland after transferring from Fauquier, posting a team-high 17.5 points per game and winning Delaney Athletic Conference Player of The Year.
DANIEL DEAVER, MARSHALL 2019 FORWARD
The 6-foot-7 Naval Academy commit was a dominant force for the Statesmen, averaging 23 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists per game.
MARCUS DOCKERY, BISHOP O’CONNELL 2020 GUARD
The University of Maryland commit was a consistent performer for the Knights, averaging a team-high 16 points per game.
TREVOR KEELS, PAUL VI 2021 GUARD
Keels earned WCAC Co-Player Of The Year after averaging 17 points per game to lead a PVI squad that was plagued by early injury troubles but bounced back to have another strong season.
QUENTIN JAMES, LAKE BRADDOCK 2019 GUARD
Headed to Davidson for football, James made the most of his final basketball season. He averaged 20.7 points per game - becoming the program’s all-time leading scorer in the process - and led the Bruins to their first state title game appearance.
XAVIER JOHNSON, EPISCOPAL 2019 GUARD
The George Mason-bound Johnson led the Maroon with 17.6 and 4.5 assists per game while guiding EHS to runner-up finishes in the IAC and VISAA D1 tournaments.
DARYL MACKEY, JR., WEST POTOMAC 2019 GUARD
A four-year starter, Mackey averaged 19.7 points per game in his final season and became West Potomac’s all-time leading scorer.
KNASIR MCDANIEL, PAUL VI 2021 GUARD
“Dug” came in as one of the area’s most highly-regarded young guards and more than lived up to the hype, averaging 10.9 points, 5.2 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game after being pressed into an expanded role.
DEVON PARRISH, PATRIOT 2019 GUARD
A three-year starter, Parrish led the Pioneers to a 23-3 record and the first state tournament berth in school history while averaging 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists per game. He will play at Christopher Newport (Va.) next year.
QUDUS WAHAB, FLINT HILL 2019 CENTER
The Georgetown-bound Wahab averaged 20.1 points and 11.4 rebounds per game to carry the Huskies to the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles for the first time since 2011.
