Recaps from the third day of action at the 2019 Governor’s Challenge: 

WICOMICO YOUTH & CIVIC CENTER

WALT WHITMAN (MD) 62, CAMBRIDGE-SD (MD) 35
2021 center Spencer Caverly registered a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds to fuel the Vikings to a landslide consolation victory.

2020 guard Jaden Pierce added six points, nine assists, and five steals for Whitman, which stifled Cambridge, clamping them to 26 percent from the floor (11 of 42).

Jeremy Taylor paced Cambridge with 10 points and three rebounds.

SNOW HILL (MD) 61, GLASGOW (DE) 47
2021 guard Shi’quan Williams racked up 21 points and 14 rebounds to lead Snow Hill past Eastern Shore foe Glasgow.

2020 guard Skylar Blank had a game-high 22 points, including a 5-for-13 effort from behind the arc.

2020 guard Hakeem Bell paced Glasgow with 10 points on 3-for-4 shooting.

SMYRNA (DE) 70, MARSHALL (VA) 66
2020 guard Izaiah Credle tallied 15 points (6 of 6 from the free throw line) and six rebounds to lead the Eagles to the Bracket 10 title.

Smyrna, which erased an early 11-point deficit, also received a colossal effort on the offensive glass from 2021 forward Olumuyiwa Salako (10 offensive rebounds) to go along with 10 points.

2021 guard Jack Taylor kept the Statesmen churning with 25 points (10 of 20 shooting), four rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and three steals.

NEW ERA (MD) 67, HAVRE DE GRACE (MD) 57
2020 forward Rico Lang piled up 27 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Jaguars to the Bracket 12 Championship.

2020 guard Jamal Cannady added 16 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists for New Era.

2021 forward Marlon Lewis led Havre de Grace with 19 points, eight rebounds, and four steals.

MIDDLEBURG (VA) 84, WESTERN BRANCH (VA) 75
2021 guard Jaden House poured in 31 points on 12-for-21 shooting to lead the Dragons to the Bracket #8 title.

2021 guard Isaiah Folkes ran the show effectively, scoring 23 points while dishing seven assists and grabbing seven rebounds.

2022 guard Efrem Johnson scored 28 points for Western Branch while 2021 guard Cameron Edwards added 24.

ST. CHARLES (MD) 75, GAITHERSBURG (MD) 73 [OT]
2020 guard and UMass Lowell commit Max Brooks registered 24 points, nine rebounds, and five steals to propel the Spartans past Metropolitan area foe Gaithersburg.

2020 guard Omar McGann filled it up from deep for St. Charles, adding 22 points with five 3-pointers.

2021 guard Jao Ituka filled the stat sheet, scoring 26 points, hauling in 12 rebounds, and dishing four assists. 2020 guard Chris Kouemi poured in 26 points on 6 of 9 shooting from deep for the Trojans.

LIBERTY HEIGHTS (NC) 52, BISHOP MCNAMARA (MD) 47
Kahari Rogers had 20 points to lead Liberty Heights over the Mustangs.

2022 center Favour Aire had 12 points and 15 rebounds to lead McNamara, while 2020 guard Kenny Womack added 11.

OLYMPIC (NC) 73, DULANEY (MD) 68
2020 guard and VCU commit Joshua Banks poured in 36 points on 15 of 21 shooting to lead the Trojans to a DMVelite Showcase victory.

Trevon Williams added 18 points and six assists for Olympic, which out-scored Dulaney in the paint 56-36.

2021 guard Ryan Conway led the Lions with 26 points (6 of 13 from deep) to go along with three steals, while 2020 forward Cameron Byers had 18 points and five rebounds.

WICOMICO (MD) 65, FRIENDS (MD) 46
2021 forward Jayson Handy had 19 points and seven rebounds (five offensive) as the Indians rolled to a DMVelite Showcase in front of the hometown faithful.

2022 guard Tawain Hardy and 2020 guard Ronnie Satchell each added 10 points for Wicomico, which had 28 points off 23 Quaker turnovers.

2020 guard Quincy Marchelya paced Friends School with 14 points on 6 of 10 shooting.

PIEDMONT CLASSICAL (NC) 79, MONSIGNOR SCANLAN (NY) 77
2020 forward Evan Joyner dropped the game-winning runner with 1.2 seconds left and filled the stat sheet with 15 points, seven rebounds, and five assists to lift the Bobcats to a Showcase victory.

2021 guard Jamarii Thomas scored 17 points and 2020 guard Jalen Joiner added 16 points for Piedmont Classical.

For Monsignor Scanlan, 2020 guard Rodney Bailey scored 24 points on 8 of 11 shooting while 2020 guard Joe Munden had 20 points.

BALBOA (CA) 55, NEW HOPE (MD) 46
Daniel Ameyaw had 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Bengals to their first Governor’s Challenge victory.

Ralph Martino led the Tigers with 15 points off five 3-pointers.

GLENELG COUNTRY (MD) 50, SETON HALL PREP (NJ) 49
2022 wing Noah Batchelor hit a 3-pointer as time expired to give the Dragons a thrilling victory.

2020 wing Jordan Brathwaite had 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Dragons, while Batchelor finished with 12.

Zander Zebrowski had 11 points to lead the Pirates, while Gary Hinds and Giye Jenkins finished with 10 points each.

ST. ANDREWS (RI) 82, ST. MARIA GORETTI (MD) 56
2020 forward Ryan Biberon scored 16 points on a perfect 8-for-8 shooting to help power the Saints to a convincing victory in the DMVelite Showcase division.

2020 forward Myles Wilmoth notched a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds for St. Andrew’s, and 2020 guard Sean James added 13 points and six assists.

2020 guard and Hartford commit Briggs McClain paced the Gaels with 17 points and three assists.

BECKLEY PREP (WV), COLEGIO SAN FELIPE (PR)
A night after winning the M&T Bank Slam Dunk Contest, Rob Jonaitas had 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting and grabbed 7 rebounds to lead Beckley Prep to victory in its Governor’s Challenge debut.

Saliou Nguer had 11 points and 6 blocks or Beckley Prep, which outscored the Eagles 35-14 in the second and third quarters to blow the game open.

Adrian Medina led San Felipe with 12 points.

UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND-EASTERN SHORE

SUSSEX TECH (DE) 77, NEW DORP (NY)
Devon Reynolds had 25 points, Skylar Johnson 22 and Cameron Daniels 10 to lift the Ravens to a consolation win.

Jah Ki Tull had 24 points to lead New Dorp, while David Shkolny had 14.

EDMONDSON-WESTSIDE (MD) 73, CRISFIELD (MD) 56
2020 wing TraShawn Harris had 15 points and six rebounds to lead the Red Storm to the Bracket 9 Championship in a potential state playoff preview against the Crabbers.

Daniel Frink added 13 points for Edmondson, while Durell Gee and Darius Bethel each had 10.

Jaron Smith had 17 points to lead Crisfield, while Rykell Waters had 14 and Javen Smith 10.

ST. VINCENT PALOTTI (MD) 72, HIGHLAND SCHOOL (VA) 65
2020 guard Bryce Walker had 17 points to lead the Panthers, while Warren Magonda had 14 and William Brown and John Glover added 10 each.

2021 guard Angelo Brizzi led Highland with 15 points, while Zion Hanberry finished with 12.

SIDWELL FRIENDS (DC) 51, ST. PETERS (NY) 48
Cameron Gillus had 16 points to lead the Quakers to victory in an OT thriller. Spencer Tyson added 11 points for Sidwell, while Ryan Cornish finished with 11.

Matt Bedford and Raied Zahriyeh had 16 points apiece for St. Peters.

ST. MARY’S RYKEN (MD) 52, CATHOLIC (VA) 50
Vlad Malavrazic scored 14 points to lead the Knights to a bracket victory in the nightcap at UMES.

Sterling White had 18 to lead Catholic - formerly Bishop Sullivan - in its return to the Governor’s Challenge. OJ Jackson added 16 points and Misha Zurabashvili finished with 10.

WICOMICO HIGH SCHOOL

EDISON (VA) 79, WAGNER (NY) 74
2020 guard Jared Clawson and 2020 guard Donavon Staples each scored 20 points to lead a balanced scoring effort as the Eagles claimed the Bracket 11 championship.

2020 guard Jaden Ignacio had 18 points for Edison, while 2020 forward Gabriel Casillas had 10 points and 8 rebounds.

2020 forward Saadiq Alexander had 25 points for Wagner, which also got 18 from 2020 guard Bleron Latta, 16 from 2021 guard Justin Mason and 10 from 2021 forward Andrew Molina.

ARCADIA (VA) 76, PARKSIDE (MD) 69
William Scarborough
had 24 points, Kamron Downing 23 and Lethon Williams 19 to lead Arcadia to an opening victory.

2021 forward Jakai Spence had 19 points to lead the Rams, while 2020 forward Marcus Yarns and 2021 guard Jarrin Mitchell had 12 apiece.

THEODORE ROOSEVELT (DC) 67, ARCHBISHOP CURLEY (MD) 63
2020 guard Amadi Lee-Kane and 2021 guard Jasir Tremble each had 14 points to lead the Rough Riders to an opening victory.

2020 forward Arande Johnson added 11 points for Roosevelt, which opened the game up by outscoring the Friars 29-14 in the second quarter.

2020 guard Caleb Johnson poured in a game-high 31 points in the loss for Curley, which got 12 points from 2020 forward Josh Knapp.

LANDON (MD) 81, GILMAN (MD) 70
2020 guard Canin Reynolds had 32 points on 10-of-16 shooting and ht six 3-pointers to lift the Bears.

2021 guard Kino Lilly added 18 points and 2021 guard Chantz Harley 15 for Landon.

The Greyhounds were led by 2020 guard Jordan Foster (16 points and 10 rebounds), 2021 guard Matthew Cooper (14 points) and 2022 guard Christian Winborne (13).

LAKE NONA (FL) 75, EAGLE ACADEMY (NY) 64
2021 guard Bryce Johnson put up 26 points, five rebounds, and four assists to lead the Lions past Eagle Academy.

2020 guard Jaylen Harper added 19 points on 8 of 11 shooting and 10 rebounds for Lake Nona.

2021 guard DaMarco Watson finished with 27 points for Eagle Academy, while 2020 guard Verson Simmons added 16 points and 11 rebounds.

VERITAS COLLEGIATE (VA) 61, MEDGAR EVERS (NY) 45
Tay Sallywhite had 19 points to lead the Spartans, while Lavi Morales added 12 and Nygel Anderson finished with 11 and 7 rebounds.

Jordan Williams had 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead Medgar Evers, while Johnathan Gaussaint had 10 points and 11 boards.

JM BENNETT HIGH SCHOOL

WINSTON CHURCHILL (MD) 57, EASTON (MD) 40
Ike Onu-Chiedo had 10 points to lead the Bulldogs to a consolation victory.

Ja’avier Pierce had 8 points to lead Easton.

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN (MD) 72, INDIAN RIVER (DE) 55
2021 guard Khalil Kosh and 2020 forward Emmanuel Henriques each had 23 points to lead Franklin, which also got 10 points from 2021 guard Eric Conway.

2021 guard Gage Spinks had 17 for Indian River, while 2022 guard Malachi Waters finished with 10.

COLONEL RICHARDSON (MD) 67, BALLOU (DC) 63 [OT]
2020 guard Diante Dickerson had 24 points to lead the Colonels to a tight overtime victory.

Rakai Jones had 12 points for Colonel Richardson, while Cameron Lake had 11.


2020 forward Cyrell Ellis had 10 points to lead a balanced scoring effort for the Knights.

WILLIAM PENN (DE) 65, KENT COUNTY (MD) 31
Isaac Brady had 17 points as William Penn cruised to victory.

Brycen Boone had 15 points and Julzan Dejesus 10 for William Penn, which jumped out to an 18-5 lead after one quarter.

2020 guard JayShaun Freeman had 12 points to lead Kent County.

ST. ALBANS (DC) 46, SEVERN SCHOOL (MD) 38
Miles Hicks had a game-high 19 points to lead the Bulldogs to an opening victory.

Adam Angwafo had 11 points to lead the Admirals.
