Glenelg Country Day (Md.) wing Noah Batchelor has emerged as one of the top players in the DMV 2022 class after a strong summer following his transfer from St. Maria Goretti (Md.)

The 6-foot-6, 190-pound Batchelor - who plays his travel ball with Mid-Atlantic Select - impressed many national observers with his play at USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team Minicamp last July. He picked up his first scholarship offer from George Washington that month, and has since added Clemson, Florida, Maryland, Memphis and Virginia Tech to the list. The Georgetown and Memphis offers came during Batchelor’s two strong outings at the 2019 Governor’s Challenge in Salisbury, where I caught up with him to discuss his breakout and recruitment:

HOW HAS YOUR TRANSITION TO GLENELG COUNTRY BEEN?

“It’s great. It’s not challenging now since I’ve gotten to know everybody and I spent a lot of school with them, and I’ve been with them personally and hanging out with them at their houses and stuff like that. So it’s really just been a great experience for me, because I never really transferred to a school like this, so it’s been great.”

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR RECRUITMENT?

“Honestly, I feel great about it, but I can always take it a step further. I always want to, because you can’t be, like, content with yourself, so I think I can take it a step further and help my team a lot more than I am doing on the floor. The recruiting process right now is great for me with all of these schools that are showing love for me. It’s just a great thing for me and my family.”

WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER THE STRENGTHS OF YOUR GAME?

“Definitely shooting, and then my athleticism. [I want to work on] My ball handling, and then trying to create more shots for people and driving to the basket.”

HAS YOUR BREAKOUT PUT A TARGET ON YOU?

“Definitely; every single game I have a target on my back. Fans and everything from other schools - their student sections are on me all the time. I just try to tune all that out. Honestly, this is the biggest target I’ve ever had on my back. I’m getting double-teamed, someone’s on me the whole entire time.”

YOU’VE GOT TIME, BUT WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR IN A COLLEGE?

“Just to bring me in as a family. That’s what I was looking for in a high school too; just somebody to bring me in as a family and treat me the way I want to be treated and also to get me better as a basketball player and to get me to that very next level, which is the NBA. So just to get me to that next level and get me prepared for everything that I need to do.”
