The 2022 forward has settled in after an offseason transfer.

After a strong 2019-20 season at Oxon Hill (Md.), 6-foot-8 forward Reis Jones transferred in July to Flint Hill (Va.), where he reclassified from the 2021 class to 2022.

So far, the move is proving beneficial on and off the court for Jones, who is attending in-person classes twice a week and playing alongside a few Flint Hill teammates on the WDBA squad in the DMVelite Varsity League at The Campus.

“It’s been pretty good,” Jones said recently of his move. “I mean, if there wasn’t any COVID, it would probably be way better. It's tough not getting to see people, like you don’t even know what they really look like.”

After playing on Oxon Hill’s junior varsity as a freshman, Jones developed into a contributor in two seasons on varsity. He served as the main interior presence in last year’s guard-heavy lineup, leading the Clippers in blocks and earning Honorable Mention 3A/2A/1A League recognition. He's also an excellent student wit a 3.9 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society.

“Playing at Oxon really helped me develop for the next level,” Jones  said. “We had some pretty good players over there so I didn’t get as much playing time as I wanted, but it was pretty good development-wise.”

In his most recent DMVelite Varsity League action, Jones was active early on both ends of the floor while tallying 12 points in a 40-23 win over Edge Bulldogs on January 24. He moves very well while displaying a soft touch, and his face up game is improving.

“[My strengths are] Probably rebounding and finishing at the rim,” he said. “Blocking shots. I needed to do a little better on defense and finishing though - I missed some shots that I should be making.”

Jones and WDBA return to Varsity League action on February 7 at 5:20 pm against Team Vito Black.

“It's great because I get to get a feel for the competition for next year, maybe,” Jones said. “And not being able to play all during the summer because of COVID, it's just a good opportunity to play.”
