The 2021 DMVelite Varsity League regular season came to a close this past weekend. The season featured standout performances every week, but one group of players stood out with their ability and consistency throughout the season.

With no further ado, we are pleased to announce the 2021 All-DMVelite Varsity League team:

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER

TREY THOMAS, DMV SPORTS ACADEMY 2022 GUARD


From Day 1, Thomas (Wise) gave opposing defenders problems. He owned the league’s top two highest scoring performances - pouring in 30 in a win over Edge Bulldogs and 27 against Team Vito Black - and led the league in scoring at 21 points per game.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

ABDOU SAMB, ECA WARRIORS 2021 FORWARD

The 6-foot-8 Frederick Douglass (Md.) product was the league’s top interior presence, routinely dominating the game with his motor, versatility and athleticism. Samb is a University of Rhode Island pledge.

FIRST TEAM

Brian Ayafor, DMV Sports Academy 2021 Forward

The 6-foot-6 Ayafor (Rock Creek Christian) was a dominant physical presence for DMVSA, which claimed the No. 1 overall seed. He averaged 9.3 points per game while also leading the way on the boards and holding it down on the defensive end.

Barry Evans, DMV Stags Elite 2021 Wing

The Poly (Md.) point-forward was a matchup nightmare while guiding the Stags to the top seed  in the East division. He averaged 11.2 points per game.

Kenton King, DC Eagles 2021 Wing

King (Archbishop Carroll) averaged a team-high 14 points per game and was one of the league’s top defenders. He led the Eagles to a dominant regular season run, with their only loss coming by a point in the finale.

Kris King, DC Eagles 2021 Wing

Similar to his twin brother, Kris (Archbishop Carroll) was one of the league’s top defenders as well as a versatile playmaker on offense while averaging 12.7 points per game.

Cortez Whitney, Germantown Basketball Club 2022 Guard

One of the league's breakout stars, the Northwest (Md.) product was a consistent offensive performer for GBC, averaging 16.8 points per game.
