There are eight teams still in the title hunt.

The DMVelite Varsity League playoff race is coming down the home stretch, with eight teams remaining before a champion is crowned.

Here’s a look at this week’s action:

EAST DIVISION

#1 DMV Stags Elite vs. #5 Lanham Christian (3/20, 11:15 am @ The Campus)

The Stags were never truly tested in a 44-23 win over Allentown Pressure last Sunday, as 2021 guard and High Point University commit Jake Koverman (Southern) posted 14 points and 2022 wing Amare Wimbush (Wise) had 12.

Lanham Christian beat Team Olney 36-29 behind 12 points from Mel Williams and 8 from Carl Powell III.

#6 DC Tigers vs. #7 WDBA (3/17, 7 pm @ Trinity Assembly)

In last week’s most thrilling contest, the Tigers knocked off #3 Unknown Talent 41-39 in overtime on a buzzer-beater by 2022 guard Amir Gray (Takoma Academy). Gray finished with a game-high 23 points.

WDBA continued its playoff run with a 55-50 win over an upstart Chevy Chase Cougars squad. The #15 Cougars pulled off the upset of the tournament by knocking off #2 Team Maryland Stars in the opening round, and led WDBA 23-16 at the half before being outscored 39-27 after the break to fall short.

WDBA got a collective scoring effort in the win with four players going for double figures, led by 15 from Samir Rahman.

WEST DIVISION

#1 DMV Sports Academy vs. #5 ECA Warriors (3/19, 9 am @ The Campus)

The overall top seed, DMVSA advanced with a tighter than expected 55-43 win over 3Di Athletics on Sunday. 3Di used a zone defense to try and slow League MVP and scoring leader Trey Thomas (Wise), and kept the game close until the final minutes. Thomas scored 18 to lead the way, while Brian Ayafor (Rock Creek Christian) had 12 and Kino Lilly (Landon) 11.

ECA Warriors advanced with a 59-31 win over Brothers United Saturday. DieRon Spencer led the way with 21 points, while Abdou Samb added 16 and Bryson Kittrel 10.

#2 DC Eagles vs. #3 DMV Stags (3/20, 10 am @ The Campus)

Archbishop Carroll (DC) twin wings Kenton King (14 points) and Kris King (12) led the Eagles to a 59-53 win over Team L.A.B. to reach the semifinal round.

The Stags used a dominant second half to pull away for a 67-45 win over ACE last Saturday. After ACE overcame an early deficit to tie the game up at 37-37, the Stags closed on a 30-8 run to seal the deal and advance. 2022 guard Bankeys Omari (Clarksburg) had a game-high 16 to lead the Stags, while Chance Berry had 14.
