ALEXANDRIA, VA - 2023 guard Daryl Holloway, Jr. scored 21 points and 2023 wing Greg Jones 17 as Hayfield rolled past South County 84-62 in an Occoquan Region semifinal Thursday night.

The win improved the Hawks to 28-0 on the season; they will host Fairfax in the region final on Saturday at 7 pm.

"It feels great," Jones said. "Every team wants to beat us; every team wants to beat an undefeated team. To do what we've done, we all take pride into it, but we just want the ultimate goal, which is a state championship."

2022 guard Kenyani Lee had a game-high 31 points for South County in his final high school game.

Lee scored the game's first bucket to give the Stallions a quick lead, but the Hawks responded with an 11-0 run and never trailed again. They led 15-5 after one quarter, 34-17 at the half and 60-42 after three quarters.

"I felt like we kept our composure when they did hit those runs, and we struck right back," Holloway said.  "We started off the game real strong and we finished it strong; I think that's our best feature."

Hayfield and Fairfax are guaranteed state tournament appearances regardless of the outcome of Saturday's game,.

Jones capped the victory with a monster dunk off an inbounds lob from 2022 guard Braylon Wheeler late in the fourth quarter. [5:16 mar of video below.]

"That's our play - I don't want to say what it's called," Jones said with a smile, "but that's our play to get a lot of energy.  They didn't switch off of it and so Bray through a perfect lob to me and I finished it."

David King had 12 points for Hayfield, 2022 guards Ashton Pratt and Markus Rouse 11 and Wheeler 10.
