Seven DMV teams will vie for state titles in Richmond this week.

Seven Northern Virginia teams will make the trip down 95 to Virginia Commonwealth University’s Siegel Center for the Virginia High School League State Championships this week.

Battlefield, Hayfield and Loudoun County will represent the DMV on the boys’ side, alongside the girls squads from James Madison, Meridian, Osbourn Park and Woodgrove.

The action starts with the Class 4 boys title game on Thursday at 2:30 pm. Loudoun County (23-6) knocked off rival Loudoun Valley 50-40 on Monday - it was the fifth meeting of the season and third in the past two weeks between the squads - and will face Varina.

At 6 pm on Thursday, Meridian (formerly George Mason) will look to repeat as Class 3 champs against Carroll County. The Mustangs ran past Lakeland 65-33 in their semifinal meeting on Monday.

Both of Friday’s Class 6 finals will be All-NoVa affairs.

The Osbourn Park (24-1) and Madison (26-2) girls will face off after respective wins over Thomas Dale and Robinson. Madison handed OP its only loss this season, downing the Yellow Jackets 53-35 back on December 30.

As for the boys, Hayfield improved to 31-0 with a 67-48 win over visiting South Lakes on Monday, and advanced to meet Battlefield (20-6), which knocked off unbeaten archrival Patriot 55-54. It was the fifth meeting of the year between the two teams, and the first the Bobcats won, with Bryce Hammersley hitting the go-ahead 3-pointer in the final seconds.

Closing out the DMV-related action on Friday will be the Class 5 girls title game at 6 pm. Woodgrove beat Briar Woods 50-47 to reach the final, where they will face Menchville, who edged Norview in overtime to advance.
