A look at some standouts from Session II at DeMatha.

Flint Hill (Va.) 2023 forward Gibraltar Coleman.

HYATTSVILLE, MD - Week 2 of DMV Live at Dematha High School was a fantastic weekend of basketball. High-level basketball was being played all around, spearheaded by many elite young talents. Numerous players had impactful and impressive performances this weekend, but a handful of them stood out in particular.

Disclaimer: I stayed for all three days, but there are games in multiple gyms. These are the players that I got to watch:

GIBRALTAR COLEMAN, FLINT HILL (VA) 2023 FORWARD

Coleman was on a tear all weekend. He opened it by posting 28 points and 12 rebounds on 11-of-23 shooting from the field and 3-of-10 from 3 in a close victory over Rock Creek-Green (Md.). He followed that up on Day Two by posting 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field and a spectacular 7-of-11 from 3 with 11 rebounds in a rout of Georgetown Prep (Md.).

Coleman did damage both inside and out. He showed his strength by getting in the post and bullying smaller defenders, and he also showed his sweet shooting stroke connecting on plenty of 3-pointers.

NATE PABIS, FLINT HILL (VA) 2023 GUARD

Coleman’s fellow Flint Hill Class of 2023 member was also very impressive. Pabis posted 19 points, seven rebounds, and five assists against Georgetown Prep, and the game seemed easy for him. He played off of Coleman very well, and this pairing is why I wish I got to see a little more of Flint Hill. Pabis also has one of the smoothest-looking jumpers around, and in two games, he went a combined 5-of-12 from 3-point range.

TYONNE FARRELL, MOUNT ST. JOSEPH (MD) 2024 GUARD

One of if not the most impressive teams this weekend was Mount St. Joseph. They went 4-0 on the weekend, and one of the reasons why was Farrell, a rising junior guard. He filled up the stat sheet in a 1-point victory over Bishop McNamara (Md.), putting up 21 points, six rebounds, and seven assists on 8-of-10 shooting from the field. In a 13-point victory over Rock Creek Christian (Md.), Farrell had a monster game, scoring 27 points on 10-of-14 shooting and hauling in 10 rebounds.

I was impressed with Farrell's aggressiveness in getting to the basket and finishing over defenders. He was able to get to the line in his bigger scoring games, and you have to credit his aggressiveness.

AMANI HANSBERRY, MOUNT ST. JOSEPH (MD) 2023 FORWARD

As previously noted, MSJ’s dominance last weekend could be attributed to multiple things, but perhaps none were as significant as 3-star 6-foot-7 forward Amani Hansberry. I heard a lot of good stuff about Hansberry heading into this weekend, and I was left not disappointed in the slightest. He put up 23 points and 11 rebounds on 9-of-15 shooting in an 11-point victory over Bishop O’Connell (Va.), and was a total force on the glass all weekend. He gobbled up a total of 42 rebounds in 4 games and was a man amongst boys.

Hansberry is a technician in the post, and combining that with a silky touch from mid-range, it's no wonder he's receiving interest from schools like Illinois, Georgetown, Villanova and Xavier.

SILAS DEVONISH, BISHOP IRETON (VA) 2026 GUARD

The player I had the most fun watching this weekend was Devonish. Devonish is a rising freshman, and at 5-foot-9, he was fearless. He hit big shot after big shot, and with star forward Jamie Kaiser missing every game but one this weekend, Devonish picked up the slack and then some. He scored 27 points on 9-of-15, shooting in a victory over Georgetown Prep. In perhaps his most impressive weekend effort, he scored 24 points in a come-from-behind overtime win against St. Frances (Md.).

Devonish left a great impression on everyone watching, and I'm excited to see what's in store for him in the future.

AUSTIN BALL, MILLER SCHOOL  (VA) 2023 WING

Coming into the weekend, the Miller school wing wanted a big showing to catch the attention of the high major college coaches in attendance. He had an up and down high school season and was looking to impress. Not only did Ball do that, I think he showed he could be more than just a shooter.

Ball shot the lights out in his first game against DeMatha, scoring 28 points on 5-of-11 shooting from 3-point land. It was quite the opposite in his next match against St. Stephen's & St. Agnes (Va.), as Ball didn't hit a 3-point shot but was still able to score 19 in a 5-point win. Ball's athleticism and overall competitive fire impressed me most all weekend. He played like he had something to prove all weekend, and that competitiveness is something that college coaches love.

JADEN WINSTON, DEMATHA (MD) 2023 GUARD

Winston was a massive catalyst for DeMatha’s 4-0 weekend. He had 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting and two game-winning free throws in overtime after missing three clutch ones in regulation. Winston ran the show like a true point guard, and the best example came in a 19-point victory over Glenelg Country (Md.), where he had 17 points, nine assists, and only one turnover.

CARLTON CARRINGTON, ST. FRANCES (MD) 2023 GUARD

A rising senior and Pitt commit, Carrington had an eventful weekend. He started his weekend off stuffing the stat sheet against Good Better Best Academy (NC) with a 17-point, seven rebounds, and seven assist performance. In that game, Carrington also had the best play of the weekend with a vicious poster which happened to be his first in-game dunk.

Carrington was great all weekend and may have had his best game in a 2-point overtime loss to Bishop Ireton. He posted 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting and had ten assists. Carrington impressed all weekend, and his dunk was a perfect exclamation point.

JAHNATHAN LAMOTHE, ST. FRANCES (MD) 2023 GUARD

Lamothe scored at a high clip all weekend. He was virtually unstoppable, and the future Maryland Terrapin showed what makes him one of the best players in the DMV. He posted 25 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, and six steals on 9-of-19 shooting from the field in a win over Good Better Best Academy.

Lamothe's aggressiveness and overall skill as a scorer were displayed all weekend. He scored 25 points three times, and no matter what the score or defense he faced, it never seemed to faze Lamothe.

DESHAWN HARRIS-SMITH, PAUL VI (VA) 2023 GUARD

Coming into the second session of DMV Live, many people thought PVI was the best and deepest team that came to DeMatha. PVI went 2-2, suffering a surprise loss to St. Anne's Belfield (Va.) in what may have been the game of the weekend, and they suffered an 18-point loss to DeMatha. One guy who exceeded expectations this weekend was 4-star rising senior DeShawn Harris-Smith. Against STAB, Harris-Smith had a huge game scoring 27 points on 12-of-19 shooting, dishing out six assists, and grabbing six boards.

DHS has an excellent feel for the game, and being a 6'5 guard with his ability is rare. His skill set will carry over to the next level, which isn't always a given for high recruits.

CARTER LANG, ST. ANNE’S-BELFIELD (VA) 2023 CENTER

The St Anne's-Belfield big man was a force all weekend. Against PVI, Lang was dominant all game, posting 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting and grabbing and seven rebounds in St. Anne's massive victory. He also posted a prodigious 22-point, 15 rebound game in a victory over St Frances.

Lang's touch and feel for the game astonished me all weekend. A guy his size, you may think, would relya little more on brute force, but that wasn't the case with Lang. He was very skilled and was a big reason for St. Anne's success at DMV Live.

CHANCE MALLORY, ST. ANNE’S BELFIELD (VA) 2024 GUARD

As crucial as Lang was to the success of St Anne's at DMV Live, Mallory might have been just as important. Mallory posted 20 points against Bishop McNamara (Md.) and 19 against PVI, including clutch free throws to ice the game. His ability to control the game and come up big for his team in clutch situations was vital. Mallory is only 5-foot-8, but he plays the game much more significantly, and his poise was crucial down the stretch of both games.
