The final 16U session featured an impressive group of performers.

Brendan Johnson, Team DTLR

HAMPTON, VA - The 2022 DMVelite Super Circuit came to a close on June 25-26 with the crowning of champions for the 11U-17U Divisions at the Boo Williams Sportsplex.

Team DTLR went 4-0 in Hampton to claim the 16U Division title, finishing with a 58-46 win over Delaware Certified Hoopers in the final. Calvert Hall (Md.) 2024 guard Brendan Johnson was named Championship MVP with 23 points.

“It feels good, especially coming away with a championship,” Johnson said. “We always feel good coming away with a championship.”

The win completed a sweep of Super Circuit high school division championships for Baltimore-based programs, as DTLR joined 15U Champions Cutt Nation and 17U Champions Team Silk.

“I feel like Baltimore is underestimated, especially with hoopers,” Johnson said. “ It’s more that people think about PG County, DC, but Baltimore has some hoopers, too.”

Here’s a look at standouts from the 16U Division’s final session:

BRENDAN JOHNSON, TEAM DTLR

Johnson opened with 20 points in a victory over Metro All-Stars and kept it rolling all weekend, finishing with an average of 17.7 per game.

“[My strength is] Shooting,” Johnson said. “I struggled this weekend shooting the ball, so I had to go more to the basket or posting up and facing up.”

DEKEVION MOORE, MARYLAND RUFF RIDERS

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound Moore (Forest Park) has been perhaps the Super Circuit’s most consistent producer, and Hampton was no exception as he averaged 16 points per game.

SAM NORFLEET, MARYLAND RUFF RIDERS

The Forest Park (Va.) guard continued his strong play, posting 12.3 points per game and hitting five 3-pointers.

ALEX OBASE, MARYLAND RUFF RIDERS

Obase (Wise 2024) showed improvement in every stop on the Super Circuit and may have had his best all-around outing in Hampton. He averaged 11.3 points per game, and was strong on the offensive and defensive boards all weekend.

DEVONTE DYSON, MARYLAND RUFF RIDERS

Dyson is small but lightning fast, and uses his speed to his advantage effectively on both ends of the floor. He averaged 10.3 points per game for the weekend.

CAREEN BOLDEN, DELAWARE CERTIFIED HOOPERS

A 6-foot guard from Seaford High School (DE), Bolden was hard on opposing defenders all weekend, and finished with an average of 14.8 points per game to help DCH reach the 16U final.

AKENDRE MATTHEWS, DELAWARE CERTIFIED HOOPERS

Matthews (Seaford 2024) was right behind his teammate on the scoring list averaging 14.2 points per game for the 16U runner-ups. Matthews hit a Division-leading 11 3-pointers for the weekend.

JADEN SAUNDERS, TEAM DEDICATION

The Long Reach (Md.) 2024 guard was consistently strong again, averaging 15.2 points per game to lead Team Dedication to the semifinal round.

CAMERON LYONS, TEAM DEDICATION

Lyons (Hammond 2024) had 19 points and the game-winning bucket in overtime as Dedication shocked the previously unbeaten Maryland Ruff Riders on Sunday. He averaged 13.8 points per game for the weekend.

A 2024 guard from Fairmont Heights (Md.), Burnett posted 14.5 points per game to lead Metro All-Stars in Session 4.
