Maryland Private School State Tourney Quarterfinals

Four winners advanced to the semifinals.

SEVERN, MD - Maryland Private School Boys State Tournament action continued Tuesday at Archbishop Spalding High School with four quarterfinal games.

St. Andrew’s, Mt. Zion Prep, Bullis and DeMatha picked up victories to advance to Wednesday’s semifinals, which will be held at Elizabeth Seton High School.

Here’s a recap of Tuesday’s action:

ST. ANDREW’S EPISCOPAL 71, GEORGETOWN PREP 62

Lawrence “Turk” Brown had 20 points, Miles Franklin 16 and 10 rebounds, Karon Bailey 15 points and Xander Alarie 13 as the Lions knocked off the No. 2 seed to advance.

St. Andrew’s led 19-13 after one quarter and outscored Georgetown Prep 23-12 in the second quarter to open things up.

Georgetown Prep’s Akbar Waheed led all scorers with 24 points, while Patrick McDonogh finished with 13.

MT. ZION PREP 71, ARCHBISHOP SPALDING 58

Alex Byrd (17 points), Khalib Norcome 12, Shane Pendergrass (11), and Ke’Mari Pointer (11) led a balanced scoring effort as the defending champion Warriors downed a scrappy and undermanned Spalding squad.

Mike Lonergan had 16 points to lead the Cavaliers, while Moe Lonergan and Colt Busse had 10 apiece.

BULLIS 70, ROCK CREEK CHRISTIAN WHITE 49

Eric Reibe had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Caden Diggs - playing in front of his future Old Dominion University coach, Mike Jones - had 14 and 7 boards as the Bulldogs raced to an early lead and cruised.

Bullis never trailed, and led 18-7 after one quarter and 41-19 at the half.

Angelo Dickerson finished with 10 points for Bullis.

Lynn King had 13 points to lead the Eagles, while Kam Wylie had 11 and Sean Van Dorn 10.

DEMATHA 73, CLINTON GRACE CHRISTIAN 69

Charles Thomas III had 23 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the field - including 3-of-3 from 3-point range - as the Stags held off a furious Clinton Grace comeback attempt to advance.

DeMatha led by as many as 20 in the second half, but Clinton Grace outscored them 32-16 in the fourth quarter to make things interesting before the Stags sealed he deal.

Ashton Meeks and Jamaal McKnight had 14 points apiece for the Stags, while Kade Sebastian added 11.

Daouda Traore had 23 points to lead Clinton Grace, while Lonnie Lyons had 17 and Ky Panda-Massey 11.
