With the 2024-25 high school season now in full swing, it's time to take a look at some of the new faces in new places who are impacting the area landscape.

The offseason once again saw a good amount of movement, with several established stars and plenty of talented up-and-comers transferring to new schools.

Here’s a look at just a few who are seeing an immediate impact in their new surroundings:

Jalyn Collingwood, 2026 Wing - Bishop McNamara (Md.) to Sidwell Friends (DC)

The 6-foot-6, 200-pound Collingwood enjoyed a strong sophomore campaign at McNamara before taking his combination of speed, skill and versatility to a Sidwell squad looking to continue its recent success. He’s fit in well early on, giving the Quakers some of the wing offensive and defensive versatility they lost with the graduation of Caleb Williams (Georgetown).

Collingwood currently holds offers from Fordham, George Washington, Louisville, Loyola (Md.), Morehead State, Murray State and Towson.

Anthony Brown, Jr., 2026 Guard - Paul VI (VA) to Archbishop Carroll (DC)

After emerging as a key reserve on a stacked PVI squad the past two years, Brown moved within the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference to Carroll, where he gets to direct the Lions’ attack.

Back during the summer high school live period, I spoke to Brown about what he hoped to get out of the move:

“Just being a leader and taking control,” he said. “Just having the keys to the car and being a better playmaker. I mean, at PVI we had a lot of nationally-ranked guys and big-name guys, but now I feel like we’ve got a lot of underground guys who are hungry but I feel like they want it more, so I know that they are going to help me and I’m going to help them.”

Brown holds scholarship offers from Charleston, George Mason, Maryland, Mississippi State, Norfolk State, Old Dominion, Providence, St. Joseph’s and Syracuse.

Ashton Graves, 2027 Guard - John Champe (Va.) to Archbishop Carroll (DC)

Another strong pickup for the Lions, Graves is a talented guard with the confidence and ability to put the ball in the basket.

After serving as the No. 1 offensive option at Champe, Graves has adjusted quickly to an off-ball role and should emerge as a solid scoring weapon in his first WCAC campaign.

Sinan Huan, 2026 Center - Windermere Prep (FL) to Georgetown Prep (Md.)

An intriguing 7-foot lefty, Huan has established himself as a matchup nightmare for the Hoyas’ opponents thus far. On a Georgetown Prep team featuring several Division I commits, Huan should emerge - literally and figuratively - as the team’s biggest X-factor.

Sifeng Huan, 2026 Center - Bishop O’Connell (Va.) to Sandy Spring Friends (Md.)

The 6-foot-10 Sifeng Huan - Sinan’s twin brother - is a Division I prospect in his own right, and is getting a chance to prove himself as Sandy Spring plays an upgraded independent schedule this season.

Brandon Woodard, 2027 Forward - Lanham Christian (Md.) to Bishop McNamara (Md.)

The 6-foot-8 Woodard flew relatively under the radar last year at Lanham Christian despite a monster freshman campaign. The secret is fully out now, with Woodard holding scholarship offers from Georgetown, Maryland and West Virginia.

Diego Joy, 2026 Guard - Lanham Christian (Md.) to Jackson-Reed (DC)

Joy was one of the area’s most prolific scorers at Lanham Christian last year, and took his offensive arsenal to a Jackson-Reed team that graduated several talented scorers.

Pete Newman, 2025 Guard - St. John’s (DC) to Jackson-Reed (DC)

Newman helped guide the Tigers to the title at the Xaverian Classic at Good Counsel earlier this month. A talented two-way performer who should see his recruitment pick up significantly.

Beau Daniels, 2027 Forward -  DeMatha (Md.) to Paul VI (Va.)

The Panthers graduated five Division I players a year ago, and the athletic Daniels will help fill a key interior scoring and rebounding role. Expect a breakout campaign from the 6-foot-7 sophomore.

Turk Brown, 2026 Guard - St. Andrew’s (Md.) to Paul VI (Va.)

Another key addition for PVI, Brown’s arrival helps fill some of the void left by the graduation of former starting point guard Ben Hammond, who is now at Virginia Tech. Brown is a talented floor general who balances scoring and distribution, and should see his recruitment take off with a strong junior campaign.

Quron Elliot, 2026 Guard - AZ Compass Prep to Mt. Zion Prep (Md.)

Elliot has already made an impact in the Mt. Zion lineup, helping the Warriors knock off nationally-ranked Prolific Prep (CA) and Utah Prep in the 5 For The Fight National Hoopfest last month.

His addition to an already talent-rich Mt. Zion lineup should help them in their quest for the Metro Private School Conference title.

Jerome Williams, 2025 Guard - Rock Creek Christian (Md.) to Mt. Zion Prep (Md.)

Williams is one of the contingent of players who followed coach Lafayette Dublin to Mt. Zion following the closure of the Rock Creek program. He had a breakout junior season and is looking good again thus far.

Darius Bivins, 2026 Guard - Alexandria City (Va.) to Bishop O’Connell (Va.)

The highly-touted Bivins has made himself right at home as the driver of the O’Connell attack, making a smooth transition to the WCAC.

Jaren Curtis, 2025 Guard - Bishop McNamara (Md.) to Prince George’s Christian (Md.)

Curtis joined a talented cast of guards at Prince George’s Christian (formerly Shabach Christian) and is getting a chance to show his all-around game.

Matthew McLaurin, 2025 Guard - Proctor Academy (NH) to Virginia Academy

The 6-foot-4 McLaurin announced his arrival for Virginia Academy with a career-high 34 points in a win over Virginia Episcopal earlier this month.

Elijah Mobley, 2025 Guard - Quality Education (NC) to Springdale Prep (Md.)

The 6-foot-3 Mobley is a bucket-getter who has put together several strong performances for the Lions.

Cameron Prosper, 2026 Wing - Bishop Ireton (Va.) to Hayfield (Va.)

Also a football standout, the 6-foot-6 Prosper brings impressive athleticism and inside-out versatility for the Hawks on the hardwood.
