#8 RIVERDALE BAPTIST 53, #9 ST. ANDREW'S EPISCOPAL 50
After watching a 12-point lead evaporate in the second half, Riverdale Baptist found itself with an opportunity to close out the game with the ball and 17 seconds on the clock and the score tied at 50.
Ean McLaughlin delivered, hitting a 3-pointer to give the Crusaders the victory to cap Day 2.
“We were trying to get downhill, but I know it's my time and I know I can hit a shot,” McLaughlin said. “I work on it every day, so I just trusted my ability to make that shot and that's what I did. I already knew it was good.”
Riverdale led 12-10 after one quarter and went ahead by as many as 12 in the second to take a 31-25 lead into the break.
The Lions never went away, though, and eventually took the lead on a Karon Bailey bucket with 3:30 remaining.
In the hectic final minute, Riverdale’s Cannon Greene scored while drawing a foul, hitting the free throw to tie the game at 50-50 with 50.2 remaining. The teams continued to battle, setting up McLaughlin's heroics.
“Just staying in the game [was the key],” McLaughlin said. “We knew they were going to make their runs and we were going to make our runs. It’s a game of runs, and we just stayed in it and we won.”
McGlaughlin finished with 18 points to lead the Crusaders, while Jacoby Briscoe had 13 and Greene went for 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Columbia-bound forward Miles Franklin finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Lions, while Bailey finished with 18 on 7-of-10 shooting, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range.
