As we continue to wrap up the 2016-17 high school basketball season on DMVelite, we are proud to announce our All-District selections for Maryland. This group is perennially the hardest to choose, as it represents our largest single area of coverage and encompasses a wide range of extremely talented players.
Our staff would like to thank the players, coaches and fans who made this past season – our seventh year of high school coverage – a success, and we look forward to many more. In addition to this All-MD team (which features only players from schools located in Maryland), we've rolled out All-DC and will be releasing an All-Northern Virginia team, culminating in our overall All-DMVelite squad.
And now, here’s our selection of Maryland’s best of the best – the 2017 DMVelite All-MD Team:
PLAYER OF THE YEAR: DE’VONDRE PERRY, POLY 2017 GUARD
Perry capped his standout career in style, averaging 19.2 points, 9.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists. 3.2 blocks and 2.3 steals per game to lead Poly to the first state championship in school history. He shot 54 percent from the field and 45 percent from 3-point range, and provided the Engineers with an unstoppable presence on both ends of the floor.
COACH OF THE YEAR: MATT MILLER, ST. MARIA GORETTI
Miller led the Gaels to one of the most successful seasons in school history, as they won the Independent-Parochial School League championship and clinched a share of the Baltimore Catholic League regular-season title. He earned BCL Coach of the Year honors.

FIRST TEAM
KEVE ALUMA, STEPHEN DECATUR 2017 FORWARD
A matchup nightmare for opposing bigs, the Wofford-bound Aluma averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds per game to lead the Seahawks back to the 3A state semifinals.
ELIJAH CLARANCE, ST. MARIA GORETTI 2017 GUARD
The Illinois State commit averaged 18.7 points per game to lead the Gaels to the Independent-Parochial School League (IPSL) Championship and a share of the Baltimore Catholic League regular-season title. He developed a knack for clutch shots, hitting buzzer-beating game-winners against Mount St. Joseph, St. James and DeMatha.
JALEN GIBBS, NORTH POINT 2017 GUARD
The 6-foot-3 Gibbs was one of the area’s most prolific scorers, pouring in 28.3 points per game to help carry the young Eagles. He scored in double figures in every game, and eclipsed the 30-point mark nine times.
DEION HAMMOND, RIVERDALE BAPTIST 2017 GUARD
The Monmouth commit averaged a team-high 16.5 points per game to lead the Crusaders to the Maryland Private Schools championship.
LAQUILL HARDNETT, PERRY HALL 2018 FORWARD
6-foot-9 with point guard instincts - he was one until a major growth spurt - the versatile Hardnett averaged 12.9 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists per game to lead Perry Hall to their first state title in school history.
JERMAINE HARRIS, ROCK CREEK CHRISTIAN 2018 FORWARD
Harris began to realize his potential on both ends of the floor, and averaged 13.7 points per game to earn Capital Beltway Athletic Association Player of The Year honors as the Eagles cruised to the league regular-season crown.
DJ HARVEY, DEMATHA CATHOLIC 2017 GUARD
The Notre Dame commit capped his DeMatha career - he spent all four years as a starter - with a team-high 16.3 points per game.
MARVIN PRICE, PATTERSON 2019 GUARD
Price made an immediate and impressive impact after transferring from DeMatha, posting 23 points, 8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game to lead Patterson to the Baltimore City title and the 2A State Championship.
IMMANUEL QUICKLEY, JOHN CARROLL 2018 GUARD
The area’s top point guard prospect, Quickley averaged 23.7 points and 7.2 assists for the Patriots, showing he could fill it up and dish with equal effectiveness. Quickley recently trimmed his list of offers to seven schools: Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Miami, Providence and Virginia.
JALEN SMITH, MOUNT ST. JOSEPH’S 2019 FORWARD
Smith broke out with 17 points, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks per game and 2.5 blocks per game to lead the Gaels to the MIAA A Conference and Baltimore Catholic League crowns. He was named BCL Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, as well as the Gatorade State Player of the Year.
MICHAEL SPEIGHT, WISE 2017 GUARD
Speight closed his high school career with another productive season, putting up a team-high 18.4 points per game along with 5.4 rebounds to lead the Pumas through a perfect regular season and a state semifinals appearance.
