UPPER MARLBORO, MD - It was a back and forth affair from the start between defending DCSAA Champion HD Woodson and reigning Maryland 4A Champion Eleanor Roosevelt in Saturday's DMV Classic at Riverdale Baptist.

The first quarter would see multiple baskets traded and lead changes. Transfer guard Tunde Scrivner scored 7 of his 21 points in the first quarter for HD, as Game MVP Barley Kanu scored 6 of his 20 for Roosevelt to tie the score at 16 at the end of the first period.

Woodson guard Derquan Washington (25 points) began to assert himself early in the second quarter with multiple layups and 3's, and Jayden Faulker (12 points) answered back on several occasions. A layup by Kion Boyd (14pts) at the buzzer cut Roosevelt's lead to 27-26 at halftime.

Drama began to build in the last two minutes of the fourth quarter. A 3-pointer by Isaiah Gross extended Roosevelt's lead to 65-57 lead with 45 seconds left. A missed free throw by Faulkner, a 3 by Boyd and free throws by Washington would see the Warriors cut the Raiders lead cut to three points with 7 seconds left.

Gross was called for a travel and Woodson reclaimed possession, but Boyd was fouled on the floor and missed two free throws. Gus Okafor's two free throws with four seconds left would give Roosevelt a commanding lead. A last-second 3 by Scrivner would make the final score 67-65 Roosevelt.
