For three days, the DMV played host to some of the top post-grad programs in the nation as part of the 2016 DMVelite East Coast Prep School Showcase December 9-11.
The event featured three teams ranked among the Top 15 in the country by SLAM Magazine: #9 CBD Montverde (Fla.), #12 Massanutten Military Academy (Va.) and #14 Mt. Zion Prep (Md.). Also taking part were host Capitol Christian Academy (Md.), Coastal Academy (NJ), CNC Prep (NY), Crestwood Prep (CN), International Sports Academy (Fla.), National Top Sports Institute (Pa.), New York International and Prestige Prep (NJ).

College coaches in attendance included Columbia, George Mason, Kent State, Morgan State, Northern Arizona, Virginia Military Institute, Bowie State, Southern Arkansas, West Chester (PA), Stevenson (Md.) and Chesapeake College (Md.).
Here’s a look at some of the weekend’s standouts:
DEVANTE CARTER, CBD MONTVERDE (FL) 2017 GUARD [MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER]
Carter (pictured) earned Most Outstanding Player honors after putting together an exceptional three-day run for the Eagles. He averaged 24 points per game (his 72 total points led all players), and posted event-bests in rebounds (13.3), assists (5) and steals (5) per game.
The powerfully-built 6-foot-3, 185-pound Carter was relentless, utilizing his strength and athleticism to make plays all over the floor. He posted the single most eye-catching stat lines of the weekend, going for 22 points, 22 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals in an 88-72 win over Capitol Christian on Saturday night.
“I try to bring energy,” Carter said. “Honestly, every game I don’t always start the way I would like, but if my shot’s not falling, I at least want to bring energy to the floor. I like to fill up the stat sheet - rebounds, assists, steals - whatever it takes to help my team win.”
Carter’s energy more than made up for a 7-of-22 shooting night against CCA. He was much more efficient from the field in a closing win over Prestige Prep, shooting 11-of-15 for 25 points while notching 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals.
The DMVelite Prep Showcase marked a homecoming of sorts for Carter, who spent his junior year at Capitol Christian after transferring in from Woodside (Va.). He returned to Woodside for his senior year, and averaged 13.9 points per game while leading them to the 6A State Semifinals. Carter didn’t play with any of the members of the Capitol Christian Prep team, but saw some familiar faces in his return to the school and had several family members make the trip from Newport News.
“I think just coming back to the DMV area and being able to play in front of my family, It was good,” he said. “Just the chance to play in front of my family and play well, that felt good.”
Carter went to Montverde with several offers - he mentioned Hofstra, Louisiana Tech, Old Dominion, and Southern Mississippi among others - but said he wanted to improve his test scores and work on improving his health and all-around game. He’s added an offer from Northern Arizona since joining Montverde, and had several Division I coaches in attendance to see him last weekend.
CAMERON HEALY, CBD MONTVERDE (FL) 2017 (HS) GUARD
The University of Albany commit (pictured) showed the ability to put up points in bunches, averaging 22 points per game. He has good range and a quick release, and was able to consistently convert off the catch and off the dribble.
He was impressively efficient in a 32-point outing against Capitol Christian, going 12-of-15 from the field and 5-of-7 from 3-point range. The 32 points were a single-game high for the event, and Healy accomplished it without forcing any shots. He finished the weekend 24-of-42 from the field (57 percent) and 9-of-20 from 3-point range (45 percent).
PEACE ILEGOMAH, CBD MONTVERDE (FL) 2017 CENTER
The 6-foot-10 center was a physical presence on both ends of the floor, and finished the weekend averaging 8.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game. His offensive game is still raw, but he has the ability to affect a game on the boards and defensively.
JONAS PARKER, COASTAL ACADEMY (NJ) 2017 WING
If not for Carter’s outburst, Parker would have posted the most eye-popping line of the weekend after posting 25 points and 21 rebounds off the bench in a 76-71 loss to Massanutten Military Academy. The 6-foot-8 Parker was active on both ends of the floor, and nearly willed Coastal to victory on sheer effort.
JALEN JORDAN, NATIONAL TOP SPORTS INSTITUTE (PA) 2017 GUARD
Jordan was one of the weekend’s most impressive scorers, and showed a lot of versatility in his offensive attack while averaging 14.8 points per game. He went 12-of-25 from 3-point range (48 percent), showed nice touch in the mid-range and finished at the rim with nice explosiveness and strength.
ISAIAH MILES, CAPITOL CHRISTIAN (MD) 2017 WING
The Gatorade Maryland Player of the Year last season at Gwynn Park High School, the 6-foot-6 Miles (pictured) has made visible improvement in his outside shooting as he transitions from undersized post player to wing.
Miles averaged 10 points and 7 rebounds per game in four contest for CCA, and finished 4-of-9 from 3-point range. He said D-2 Lincoln Memorial and Livingstone have inquired, and a few D-I programs have begun entering the picture as well.
JUSTIN ROUTE, CAPITOL CHRISTIAN (MD) 2017 GUARD
A Bowie State commit, Route showed his full arsenal while averaging 12.3 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals per game. His versatility is key on both ends of the floor for Capitol Christian; offensively he’s a mismatch for smaller guards and bigger wings, and defensively he uses his athleticism and wing span to disrupt passing lanes and create transition opportunities.
KOBE ROURKE, CAPITOL CHRISTIAN (MD) 2017 FORWARD
The National Christian (Md.) graduate has always been solid on the boards and defensively, but truly impressed with a newfound level of aggression on the offensive end.
The 6-foot-8 Rourke posted 12.3 points per game while displaying nice touch and the ability to finish facing up and with his back to the basket. He also pulled down 7 rebounds per game and lead the team in blocks (1.3 per game). He posted a double-double (10 points, 10 boards) against Montverde
Of all the players on CCA’s roster, the extra year may serve Rourke the best, and his recruitment should reach a new level.
MAURICE GENTRY, CAPITOL CHRISTIAN (MD) 2017 GUARD
Gentry is another CCA player who stands to benefit greatly from his post grad season. He was a contributor on a guard-focused Wise (Md.) team last year, but has truly been able to show his full skillset this season.
Gentry is dangerous from beyond the arc, and finished second in the event with 10 made 3’s while averaging 11.3 points per game.
JAMARKO PICKETT, MASSANUTTEN MILITARY (VA) 2017 FORWARD
The Ole Miss-bound former Eastern (DC) product produced in his return to the area, posting 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in a 76-71 win over Coastal Academy. Pickett’s length and speed make him a matchup nightmare for defenders, who couldn’t keep him out of the lane without fouling.
NEHEMIAH MACK, MASSANUTTEN MILITARY (VA) 2017 GUARD
Mack posted a team-high 21 points in in a 76-71 win against Coastal Academy (NJ) and made several big plays down the stretch to help seal the victory.
ISAIAH WHALEY, MT. ZION PREP (MD) 2017 (HS) FORWARD
The 6-foot-9 Whaley was unstoppable in an opening win against Crestwood Prep from Canada, going 11-of-14 from the field while posting 27 points and pulling down 15 rebounds.
Whaley is the top available 2017 big man in the DMV, with offers from Charlotte, Georgia, Memphis, Providence, Towson and Virginia Tech, among others.
JAIVAUN MCKNIGHT, PRESTIGE PREP (NJ) 2017 GUARD
McKnight was in attack mode all weekend for Prestige Prep, and did a nice job of making plays whenever his team needed a lift. There were times he tried to do too much, but he’s a good-sized combo guard who plays with passion and isn’t afraid to sacrifice his body on the defensive end. McKnight averaged 16 points and 4 rebounds per game.
SHAWN EVANS, INTERNATIONAL SPORTS ACADEMY (FL) 2017 GUARD
Evans (pictured) showed he could put the ball in the basket in a variety of ways while averaging 24.5 points per game in a pair of contests. He displayed deep shooting range off the dribble and off the catch, and was able to consistently finish on drives to the basket. Evans dropped 29 points in a 90-81 comeback win over Prestige Prep, going 9-of-14 from the field (2-3 on 3’s) and 9-of-13 from the free throw line.
A 2016 grad of Deep Creek (Va.), Evans said he only has interest from Hampton, but should see his recruitment pick up with similar performances.
LOGAN RYAN, INTERNATIONAL SPORTS ACADEMY (FL) 2017 CENTER
The 6-foot-8 Ryan averaged 18.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while showing the ability to instantly impact games in a reserve role. He runs the floor well and showed good hands and soft touch around the basket. Ryan said he has generated mid-major Division I interest, but is still awaiting his first offer.
RYAN KROLL, INTERNATIONAL SPORTS ACADEMY (FL) 2017 GUARD
Kroll is a hard-nosed lead guard who showed no fear driving the lane against bigger players. He averaged 14.5 points and three steals per game. He sees the floor well and found teammates in good position to score.
