In a rematch of last year’s 4A South Regional Final, Eleanor Roosevelt Raiders were able to defeat Duval Tigers 26-12 and advance to its second straight 4A South Regional Final game.

This year’s game was not as close or exciting as Duval star quarterback Antoine Brooks was sidelined due to an ankle and wrist injury he suffered in a game against the Wise Pumas in October. The absence of Brooks however gave way for Roosevelt running back Karl Mofor to have a big game.

A big game is what Mofor delivered as he ran for just over 200 yards and found the end zone three times in the first half. "It felt great to get revenge versus Duval since they stopped our dream season last year," said Mofor.

The Roosevelt ground attack was potent all game from the beginning. Mofor got the attack going as he took the ball up the middle for a 56 yard score on Roosevelt’s first possession; Raiders led 6-0 halfway through the first quarter.

Mofor didn’t just make his presence felt on the offensive side of the ball. Mofor on special teams was able to force a fumble after hitting Duval’s punter that gave Roosevelt great field position. A few plays later, Roosevelt quarterback Jaden Faulkner took it in from one yard out on a one yard quarterback sneak, extending the lead 12-0 at the end of first quarter.

The running attack would continue to be a focus point for the Raiders as Mofor rushed for two more touchdowns in the second quarter, including a 46 yard rush that ended in a score.

In the second half the Raiders struggled to hold on the ball, Mofor in particular as he turned the ball over twice in the second half.

The turnovers didn’t hurt the Raiders much as the team was able to hold onto its first half 26-6 lead en route to its consecutive 4A South Regional Final game.

The Riaders now turn there sights to Wise. " We have to hold them to 14 0r fewer points and start off fast, limit the mistakes and win the turnover battle to beat Wise," said Mofor. Roosevelt will face No. 1 seed Wise Friday in Upper Marlboro.
