On a cool windy Fall Friday night the Wise Pumas scored 42 unanswered points on its way to a 42-8 victory against the Bowie Bulldogs on their way to a berth in the 4A Regional Finals.

“They were in tune all week to what we wanted to do, and they came out here and executed,” said Wise head coach DaLawn Parrish. “Everybody was in tune, and because of that we were able to hold a good quarterback in check.”

The Pumas got on the board early as the team drove down the field behind a heavy ground attack that ended with a CJ Rainey rushing touchdown to put the team up 7-0.

“We wanted to come out and set another statement for all teams, any team that is watching us,” said Rainey. “My line blocked very well and I had to make sure I was patient hitting the holes and reading it right.”

After forcing a three and out on its first defensive possession, the Pumas were able to turn defense into offense on its next defensive drive when defensive back Michael Clark intercepted Bowie quarterback Jason Epps and returned it for a score. The touchdown extended Wise lead to 14-0 in the first quarter.

As the second quarter began the Pumas found themselves with fourth & goal deep in Bulldogs territory. The Pumas found the end-zone again; this time quarterback Jabari Laws got into action, throwing a 14 yard strike to Michael Clark for a touchdown, giving the Pumas a commanding 20-0 lead just seconds into the second quarter.

The Pumas were dominating the rest of the quarter, forcing three more interceptions while adding three more touchdowns on the offensive end. The Pumas went into halftime with a 42-0 lead and a victory only a few minutes away.

“We had a game plan today and we knew what they were going to do because we had already played them, coach basically let me off the leash today and told me to go get the passer,” said defensive end John Daka. “Thanks my DB like Myles making it hard for them to throw it. Gave me a little extra time to get to the Qb, but definitely everybody was in sync. Today was a good day, it was fun, we were playing fun today.”

Up 42-0 the Pumas brought in the second string unit to finish out what had already been decided.

The Pumas second unit played well, getting the ball down to the one yard line before being stopped on fourth and goal.

The Bulldogs however didn’t go out scoreless, with three minutes left in the game; Epps was able to connect with Marcus Haynes for a 73 yard touchdown pass. The Bulldogs were able to convert the two point conversion and bring the score to 42-8 as the Bulldogs lost and had their playoffs hopes ended.
