FREDERICK, MD - Back and forth they ran, baseline to baseline. Sweat dripping down their foreheads, legs burning, hands placed on the back of their heads as they gasped for air - hoping to catch the attention of a college scout with their talent and relentless hustle.

You may be a standout at the high school level, but to be placed in a gym with a hodgepodge of players striving to attain the same goal, something extra is needed to make a college coach bat an eye.

This past Saturday, DMVelite hosted the 2nd annual DMVelite West Showcase at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, with 82 high school players from around the DMV, Delaware and Pennsylvania in attendance.

"The DMVelite showcase events have helped me evolve my game," Williamsport (Md.) 2016 guard Michael Riley said. "I always look to participate in them to play up against the area's top players."

The day started out with stretches and a warm-up led by St. James School (Md.) Strength and Conditioning Coach Micah Fraction. Then, each player was sent to specified skill stations - focusing on ball handling, passing and using ball screens, knocking down jump shots from off the catch or the dribble and basic half court, 5-on-5 sets.

Players spent 15 minutes apiece at each of the four stations. After the developmental stages ran its course, 5-on-5 full court games began.

The Hood College gymnasium was crammed with wire-to-wire games being played on split courts, spectators and plentiful college coaches/scouts on attendance all the way until the end.

Some names that stood out throughout the day were Riley, Seneca Valley (Md.) wing Brandon Simpson, Riverdale Baptist (Md.) guard Deion Hammond, Gwynn Park (Md.) guard Kollin Mitchell, William Penn (Pa.) guard Montrel Morgan and many more. Make sure to be on the lookout for detailed player write-ups coming in the next few days.
