RICHMOND, VA -  The Mac McClung Show took over the Siegel Center on Friday night as Gate City took home it's first state title in school history.

2A - Gate City 80, R.E. Lee-Staunton 65

The Gate City Blue Devils completed their dream season with a 80-65 victory over the R.E. Lee-Staunton Fighting Leemen. In a rematch of last year's state quarterfinals, the Blue Devils prevailed behind 47 points from Georgetown-bound guard Mac McClung

McClung broke J.J. Redick's (Cave Spring) VHSL record for most points in a game (46) en route to the victory.  To top it off, McClung finished his senior season with 2,801 career points, another VHSL record. McClung also broke Allen Iverson's single-season scoring record

Accolades aside, the Georgetown-bound commit was humbled by winning a state title for Gate City, the first in school history. With Georgetown head coach Patrick Ewing in the stands, McClung was a highlight reel on both ends.

R.E. Lee 2018 forward Jarvis Vaughan barrelled down the court for what looked like a two-handed flush, but McClung simply sized him up and swatted away the dunk attempt, shaking his head as the ball went out of bounds. Vaughan is committed to play at Old Dominion University. He finished the game with 21 points, 19 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals.

Not to be lost in the hype was also 2019 Gate City guard Zac Ervin's performance. Ervin finished with 26 points, eight rebounds and three assists on 11-of-19 shooting from the floor. He's got offers from Bowling Green, Duquesne, Marshall, Liberty, East Tennessee, Liberty, James Madison and Central Arkansas to name a few.

1A - Lancaster 52, Eastside 49

The Lancaster Red Devils won their second state title in school history in a back-and-forth battle against the Eastside Spartans.

The Red Devils were led by 15 points from 2020 guard Corey Smith off the bench. Smith made three 3-pointers and also snagged three rebounds in 15 minutes of action.

Scrappy defense from Lancaster led the charge as they held Eastside to just seven points in the fourth quarter. The Spartans led 42-39 entering the fourth quarter after a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from Adam Ketron.

Eastside's scoring attack was led by seniors, 6-foot-7 Colyn Sturgill and 6-foot-8 senior Luke Lawson. Sturgill finished the game with 18 points, eight blocks, five rebounds and an assist. Lawson finished with 11 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two blocks.

The Red Devils shot 34.6 percent from the floor as a team in the game, but had 12 steals on 17 forced turnovers. Lancaster guards Calvin Henderson and Darius Reed each finished with four steals apiece.
