Day 2 of the PYBL summer season kicked off on Wednesday night at Cesar Chavez School in Washington D.C.
In the opening game of the night, four-time defending champion Southern Maryland Elite won handily over Charles Elite, 80-45. Southern Maryland opened the game with full-court pressure and never let up as they kept it up all game.
The defending champions forced 16 turnovers on 15 steals and held Charles without a field goal for the whole third quarter. Charles shot 16-of-51 (31.4 percent) from the floor as a team.
Southern Maryland, on the other hand, shot 52.4 percent (33-for-63) from the field and made just three 3-pointers in the game.
5-foot-11 guard Isaiah Arnold led the way for Southern Maryland with 24 points along four rebounds and three steals. Forward Asaa Gregg was right behind him with 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals.
Jayden Brown led Charles Elite with 14 points.
In the second game of the night, the Washington D.C. Elite squad pulled out a close victory over Prince George's Elite, 59-54. It looked like the D.C. squad would win this one running away after they opened the first quarter with an 18-6 lead.
Prince George's shot just 15.4 percent from the floor in the opening frame, but they made their adjustments in the second quarter.
Prince George's outscored D.C. 35-19 in the second and third quarters to take a lead of their own entering the fourth quarter. Despite leading 41-37 in the final frame, Washington D.C. came storming back in the fourth.
They outscored Prince George's 22-13 in the fourth quarter to pull out a victory in the end. Point guard Jeremiah Quigley led the way for D.C. with 19 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Jayden Winston had 16 points as well.
Prince George's Kalen Cobb finished with 10 points, 16 rebounds and three steals. Tieron Vick also had 11 points and eight rebounds on 5-of-7 shooting.
