After two weeks of PYBL play, it's time to recognize the Player of the Week and Team of the Week.

This week's Player of the Week award was a tough one as was Team of the Week. Anne Arundel Wildcats big man Amani Hansberry checks in as this week's player to recognize. Hansberry turned in the first 20-point, 20-rebound performance of the season this past Tuesday in the Wildcats victory over the Montgomery Yellow Jackets.

Hansberry recorded 27 points and 23 rebounds along with four blocks in a 68-63 victory over Montgomery. His performance came after he put up just eight points and 15 rebounds in a defeat against the Baltimore Suns last Sunday. 

This week, he came out hot and never wavered, going 13-for-21 from the field and snagging 11 of his 23 rebounds on the offensive end.

The 6-foot-5 center is averaging 16 points and 16.6 rebounds so far this summer in PYBL play. Not a bad start as this year's King of the Summer award is anybody's for the taking.

As for Team of the Week, the award goes to defending champion Southern Maryland Cardinals. Head coach Kevin Respress has looked good in his first year in the role as the Cardinals are off to a 2-0 start. 

They opened the season with an 80-45 victory over the Charles County Warriors back on May 30. Isaiah Arnold led the way in that game with 24 points.

In their second game this past week, they defeated Prince George's County Stallions, 60-50, behind 16 points from point guard Malik Mack. 

They don't have the depth they've had in the past but it hasn't slowed down the Cardinals so far.

"I've never worried about us scoring...things like rebounds, defense, diving on the floor, those things matter," Coach Repress said. "But we'll be in the lab soon."

The Cardinals will certainly need to have some extra focus in the lab for this week's matchup. They'll face the Washington D.C. Bulldogs this Wednesday at Cesar Chavez in what should be a fun one.
