The Paint Branch guard is an explosive scorer.

Paint Branch (Md.) 2019 guard Richard Dudley had a breakout junior season, emerging as one of the area’s most effective scorers at 20.8 points per game.

“I’m a strong driver,” Dudley said last Saturday following at game at the Capitol Hoops Summer League at DeMatha. “I can shoot the outside ball and I can pass on the drive. I want to work on my pull-up game; that’s pretty much it.”

With the Panthers losing last year’s next three highest scorers to graduation, he may need to carry even more of the scoring load. That dependence was evident last Saturday, when Dudley scored 19 points in a 64-54 loss to Georgetown Prep. He went 8-of-18 from the field while trying to help Paint Branch keep pace, and he and 2019 forward Jordan Alphonso (13 points) were the only Panthers in double figures.

“We have a younger group; we lost a lot of seniors but we should be good,” he said. “It’s going to help me be a leader in the long-term.

The 5-foot-11 Dudley is athletic and powerful, and excelled attacking the basket. He did a nice job of exploiting openings in the defense and blowing past defenders to finish off several acrobatic lay-ins. His 3-point shot wasn't falling on Saturday (1-for-6), but he's shown the ability to connect consistently in the past and does a nice job of creating space to get it off with a quick release.

While Dudley - who is running with Team Melo - has yet to attract any scholarship offers, he should see his recruitment take off with another productive season, and he sounds up to the task.

“On this team I get to show my talent and get my teammates better,” he said. “  want to get some offers, and I just want to get better as a player.”
