Recaps from Day 2 of the 2018 Governor’s Challenge:

WICOMICO YOUTH & CIVIC CENTER

BRACKET 6 CHAMPIONSHIP: KEMPSVILLE (VA) 58, NEW DORP (NY) 42
2021 guard Dominic Stanford and 2019 guard Isaiah Knox both scored 14 points as the Chiefs rolled to the Boys’ Bracket 6 title.

Stanford was named the Most Outstanding Player for the bracket (19.5 points per game in two wins). In the 66-40 victory over Queen Anne’s, he scored 25 points to along with five rebounds.

Kempsville 2019 forward Tyson Brown added a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

2019 guard Latrell Thompson paced New Dorp with 16 points and seven rebounds.

NEW ERA (MD) 66, QUEEN ANNE’S (MD) 57
2019 guard Tyree Banks tallied 20 points to lead the Jaguars to victory in the Bracket 6 consolation game.

2020 guard Diyea Little added 12 points for New Era, while 2020 forward Xavier Rivers finished with 10.

2019 guard Nicholas Dunkerly led Queen Anne’s with 14 points, while 2019 center Jordan Dozier added 10 points and 9 rebounds.

BRACKET 8 CHAMPIONSHIP: EDMONDSON-WESTSIDE (MD) 73, WAGNER (NY) 51

2020 guard Daniel Frink scored 15 points and the Red Storm deployed a stifling 2-3 zone to win the Bracket 8 title.

Frink was the MOP, leading his team in scoring (26 points in two games) while spearheading a defense that forced a combined 45 turnovers for the tournament. 2019 wing Markus Hocker did a little bit of everything for Edmondson, totaling 13 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

2020 guard Shane Trimmier led Wagner with 14 points and five rebounds.

GEORGETOWN DAY (MD 62), JM BENNETT (MD) 56
2022 guard Jayden Rainey scored 23 points as the Hoppers rebounded from Tuesday’s lopsided loss to Edmondson to win the Bracket 8 consolation game.

Georgetown Day 2021 guard Jordan Rayford recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Antuan Armstrong had a double-double of his own for JM Bennett (11 points, 10 rebounds).

BRACKET 9 CHAMPIONSHIP ARCHBISHOP CURLEY (MD) 34, FRIENDSHIP COLLEGIATE (DC) 24
2020 guard Caleb Johnson scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds to help lead the Friars to the Bracket 9 championship.

Johnson, the bracket MOP, scored 12 points in the two-point win over Linganore and led his team in scoring for the tournament.

2019 forward Neco Campbell had nine points and 13 rebounds to pace Friendship Collegiate.

LINGANORE (MD) 62, PARKSIDE (MD) 46
2020 guard Sean Lang registered a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) to lift the Lancers to victory in the Bracket 9 consolation game.

Linganore 2019 guard Bennett Formulak scored 15 points and dished six assists, while 2021 forward Cole Mitchell added 12 points and seven rebounds.

2021 guard Quamier Snell led Parkside with 11 points.

WINGS ACADEMY (NY) 64, ABRAHAM LINCOLN (PA) 58
2019 guard Mo Nimaga finished just one point shy of a triple-double (9 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists) as Wings held off a later rally to win.

2019 guard Tommy Thomas led Wings with a game-high 19 points, while 2019 guard Derrick Crothers had 19 and 2019 forward Marquel Jackson 12.

2019 forward Asseem Luckey posted 15 points and 16 rebounds for Lincoln which also fo 3 from 2019 guard Emeuel Charleston and 14 points and 11 rebounds from 2020 guard Shaquil Bender.

LIBERTY HEIGHTS (NC) 62, FATHER HENRY CARR (CN) 47
Alabama commit Juwan Gary posted 28 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Cardinals to a win over the Crusaders.

2019 guard Deante Petree added 16 points for Liberty Heights.

2019 guard Jalen Menzier had 16 points for Father Henry Carr, while 2020 guard Josh Morgan added 12.

NEUMANN-GORETTI (PA) 68, GILMAN (MD) 65
The Saints jumped out to an early lead and survived a furious Greyhound run in the final five minutes to hold on for a victory.

2020 guard Hakim Byrd scored 15 points to lead Neumann-Goretti, which got 12 points from 2021 guard Chris Evans, 11 from 2019 guard Chris Ings and 10 from 2020 forward Jordan Hall.

Army commit Jalen Rucker had a game-high 22 points for Gilman, and narrowly missed the potential game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer. The 2019 guard also added 8 rebounds and 6 assists. 2022 guard Christian Winborne added 16 points for the Greyhounds while 2021 wing Malik Missouri had 11.

CENTRAL POINTE (FL) 66, VIRGINIA ACADEMY (VA) 53
2019 guard Jeriel Zayas posted a game-high 24 points on 11-of-17 shooting as the White Tigers pulled away late to beat the Patriots.

2020 forward Harry Sosa added 17 points for Central Pointe and 2020 guard Luis Rolon added 14.

2020 guard Amir Nesbitt led Virginia Academy with 13 points, while 2020 forward Jahvon John finished with 11.

ELIZABETH (NJ) 61, WICOMICO (MD) 26
Elizabeth put Wicomico in an early hole and piled on from there, running away to a victory in their first Governor’s Challenge game.

6’6 2021 forward Jesiah West had 26 points and 2020 guard DeWarren Watkins 15 for the Minutemen, who led 19-4 after one quarter and 33-9 at the half.

2020 guard Jaden Baker had 13 points and 5 rebounds to lead Wicomico.

DULANEY (MD) 70, ST. GEORGES (DE) 64
2021 guard Ryan Conway totaled 30 points, four assists and four rebounds to power the Lions to a Showcase victory.

2020 guard Che Evans added 12 points, six rebounds, and four steals for Dulaney.

2019 guard Nah’Shon Hyland put up 34 points and eight rebounds for the Hawks.

VERITAS PREP (CA) 58, LEGACY EARLY COLLEGE (SC) 54
2019 guard Iverson Molinar lifted Veritas Prep to a DMVelite Showcase victory with 26 points and three assists.

2019 forward Stefan Gabriel pitched in with 15 points and four rebounds.

2019 forward Chase Claxton led the Lions with 16 points and five rebounds.

LINCOLN ACADEMY (GA) 63, ABRAHAM LINCOLN (NY) 56
Behind 2019 guard Elias King (24 points, three blocks), the Bulldogs rallied from an 11-point first quarter deficit for the Showcase victory.

2021 guard Rafael Pinzon added 13 points and four rebounds for Lincoln Academy, which scored 23 points off turnovers.

2019 guard Brian Stevens led the Railsplitters with 16 points.

MARYLAND-EASTERN SHORE

GIRLS BRACKET 1 CHAMPIONSHIP: KINGS CHRISTIAN (MD) 43, WORCESTER PREPARATORY 41 OT
2021 Alexis Smith had 17 points and 2022 Perrin Proctor posted 12 points and 12 rebounds as the Eagles edged the Mallards to take home a bracket title. KCA forced overtime with a last-second 3 to close regulation.

2019 center Gracie Gardner and 2019 guard Hailey Merritt each had 12 points for Worcester Prep, which also got 10 points from 2021 forward CC Lizas.

GIRLS BRACKET 2 CHAMPIONSHIP: KEMPSVILLE 52, LINGANORE(MD) 40
2020 guard Tahje Perkins scored 15 points and 2020 forward Kylie Hudson added 10 to lead the Chiefs to victory.

2019 guard Shay Arneson had 14 points for Linganore.

[GIRLS] WALKERSVILLE (MD) 46, ST. CHARLES (MD) 32
2021 forward Maggie Molnar scored 15 points and swiped six steals to help lead the Lions to the Bracket 3 title.

Walkersville 2019 forward Julie Wallace added nine points and 10 rebounds.

2020 forward Jaila Walton paced St. Charles with 10 pounds, eight rebounds, and four steals.

OVERLEA (MD) 58, WASHINGTON (MD) 52

BRACKET 7 CHAMPIONSHIP: ST. JOHN'S CATHOLIC PREP (MD) 72, ARCADIA (VA) 46
2019 guard Brycen Hill dropped 31 points to lead the Vikings to an easy victory.

2020 Lethon Williams scored 8 points to lead Arcadia.

ST. PETERS (NY) 75, POTOMAC (VA.) 47

2019 guard Chris Clancy had 28 points on 11-of-14 shooting to lead the Eagles  over the Panthers.

2020 forward Liam Murphy added 18 points, 2019 guard Tommy Lotito 15 and 2019 forward Jamal Achille 12 for St. Peters.

Anthony Jackson led Potomac with 15 points.

ARCHBISHOP CARROLL (DC) 54, OLYMPIC (NC) 53

2020 forward Anton Harrison scored as time expired to give the Lions a thrilling victory to close Day 2.  


Harrison led Carroll with 12 points, Corey Barnes had 11 and Elijah Perkins-Cross 10.

2019 guard Charles Bryson III had 19 points to lead Olympic, while 2020 forward Josh Banks added 18.

WICOMICO HIGH

CRISFIELD (MD) 58, CARAVEL (DE) 56
2019 wing Justin Cohen had 25 points and 11 rebounds as the Crabbers rebounded from a Wednesday loss to hold off the Buccaneers.

2019 guard Ryan Waters had 15 for Crisfield.

Caravel 2020 guard Kevin Kester finished with 26 points in the loss. 6-9 2020 center Jeb Williams had 15 points and 12 rebounds.

ST. ELIZABETH (DE) 47, OAKDALE (MD) 42
2020 guard Nasir Brown scored 17 points as the Vikings closed out their trip with a win over the Bears.

St. Elizabeth 2021 guard Jaden Dickerson had 14 points, while 2019 guard Justin Money finished with 10.

2020 guard Jack McGaha paced Oakdale with 13 points and seven rebounds.

BRACKET 3 CHAMPIONSHIP:  ST. CHARLES (MD) 64, DUNBAR (MD) 52
2019 guard Anthony Bowman had 14 points and 11 rebounds as the Spartans took home the title.

2020 wing Darius Miles finished with 11 points for St. Charles, while 2022 guard Amir Dade added 10.

2019 guard Sammy Davis, Jr. had 13 points to lead the Poets, while 2019 guard Damon Miller added 10.

BRACKET 4  CHAMPIONSHIP: SIDWELL FRIENDS (DC) 66, PATTERSON (MD) 55
2019 guard Jason Gibson poured in 32 points on 5 of 11 shooting from deep as the Quakers from the Nation’s Capital outlasted the Clippers from Baltimore City.

The clash pitted the third-ranked team in Charm City by the Baltimore Sun (Patterson) and the 16th-ranked team in the Metropolitan area by the Washington Post.

2019 guard Marvin Price led Patterson with 27 points on 11 of 19 shooting.

BRACKET 2 CHAMPIONSHIP: PATTERSON MILL (MD) 75, SNOW HILL (MD) 58
2019 guard Connor Madsen posted 25 points and 10 rebounds and 2019 guard Nathan Roussey scored 18 as the Huskies topped Snow Hill to close out a successful Governor’s Challenge trip.

2019 forward Peyton Celuch added to for Patterson Mill, which rallied back from double-digits to win its opener in overtime against Walkersville (Md.) on Wednesday. This win was a bit more comfortable, as the Huskies used a 24-11 scoring run in the second quarter to take control.

2019 guard Curtis Black led the Eagles with 19 points, while fellow 2019 guard Jeffrey Ayres finished with 10.

BRACKET 1 CHAMPIONSHIP: TALLWOOD (VA) 82, SEED SCHOOL (DC) 40
2020 guard Kaleb Peterson scored 20 points (and dished out 8 assists) to lead four Tallwood players in double figures as they cruised to a title victory.

2020 center Calvin Thomas scored 12 points for the Lions, while 2020 forward Jalen Baxter-Harris and 2019 guard Evan White each finished with 10.

2019 guard Zachary Clark led SEED with 14 points, while 2020 guard Kenneth Riley added 12.

STEPHEN DECATUR (MD) 67, LAUREL (DE) 47
2020 guard Drew Haueisen and 2020 forward Churchill Bounds each scored 17 points to lead the Seahawks to a bracket consolation win.

Bricen Sanders had 15 points to lead Laurel.

JM BENNETT HIGH

[GIRLS] THOMAS STONE (MD) 52, SNOW HILL (MD) 16
2019 forward Cerina Cobey and 2020 guard Danya Smith each scored 21 points as the Cougars rolled in the Bracket 1 consolation game

[GIRLS] GAITHERSBURG (MD) 54, WICOMICO (MD) 48
2020 guard Jada Thornton scored 19 points and hauled in 10 rebounds to lead the Trojans past the hometown Indians.

Shymira Shelton had a double-double for the Indians with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

[GIRLS] BETHESDA-CHEVY CHASE (MD) 46, PARKSIDE (MD) 42
2021 guard Caroline Orza scored 11 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to lead the Barons to victory.

2022 guard Amanda Ballard had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Parkside, while 2021 forward Jaqueline Wright had 14 points and 13 boards.

WALKERSVILLE (MD) 85, INDIAN RIVER (MD) 79
Walkersville 2021 guard Jacob Montgomery continued his stellar two-day run with 34 points to counter a 42-point performance by IRHS 2019 forward Jamier Felton.

Montgomery was coming off a 39-point outing in a loss on Wednesday. 2019 forward Myles Roberts had 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Lions Thursday.

2020 guard Zion Mason added 12 points for the Indians.

SALISBURY SCHOOL (MD) 65, CONCORDIA PREP (MD) 64
Joshua Lewis scored a game-high 27 points as the Dragons held on to edge Concordia Prep.

Salisbury School’s Jared Vasquez added 14 points and 14 rebounds.

2019 forward Collin Glenn led Concordia Prep with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

BRACKET 5 CHAMPIONSHIP: MARDELA (MD) 87, KINGS CHRISTIAN (MD) 72
2019 guard Syncere Pinkett posted 40 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals as the Warriors claimed the Bracket 5 crown.

[GIRLS] CITY (MD) 76, ABRAHAM LINCOLN (NY) 42
2020 guard Mya Henson dropped 27 points and 2019 guard Raquel Nicholson had 17 to lead the Knights to a comfortable victory in Thursday’s DMVelite Showcase nightcap.

2020 forward Adria Powell had 11 points and 13 rebounds to lead Lincoln.
