Recaps from the third day of the 2018 Governor’s Challenge:

WICOMICO YOUTH & CIVIC CENTER

ARCHBISHOP CARROLL (DC) 78, WINGS (NY) 64
2022 guard Trey Thomas scored 18 points on 6 of 12 shooting to lead the Lions to a showcase victory.

Carroll 2021 forward Kyrese Mullen added a double-double (12 points, 13 rebounds).

2019 guard Tommy Thomas dropped 39 points on 13 of 22 shooting for Wings.

HAMMOND (MD) 53, KENT COUNTY (MD) 47
2019 guard Jaylen Wiggins scored 22 points - including the game-sealing lay-in in the final 20 seconds - to lift the Bears past the Trojans.

2019 guard Micah Henry added 19 points for Hammond.

2020 guard JayShaun Freeman led Kent County with 19 points, while 2020 guard Ny’Tre Green added 17.

WHITMAN (MD) 49, NEW TOWN (MD) 43
2019 guard Brendan Shaver posted 15 points and eight rebounds and the Vikings used a second-half 9-0 run to outlast the Titans from Baltimore County.

2019 guard Jason Lewis and 2020 guard Josh Weinberg scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, for Walt Whitman, which made 7 of 24 3-pointers compared to New Town’s 1 of 22.

New Town 2020 guard Martaz Robinson had 10 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists.

WINSTON CHURCHILL (MD) 75, CARVER E&S (PA) 32
The Bulldogs used a 21-7 second quarter run to take control and cruised to a decisive victory in their Bracket 11 opener.

2019 guard John Mbeng scored 25 points to lead the Bulldogs, while 2020 wing Jomo Goings had 12.

2019 guard Kris Almonte led Carver with 10 points and 6 rebounds.

HIGHLAND (VA) 57, EAGLE ACADEMY (NY) 45
Highland outscored Eagle Academy 20-11 in the fourth quarter to seize control of a tight game in their Bracket 12 opener.

2021 guard Angelo Brizzi finished with 17 points to lead the Hawks. 2019 guard Darret Justice finished with 15 - including the 1000th of his career - and 2019 center Cam Timmons added 13 points and 10 rebounds.

2020 forward Vernon Simmons had 12 points and 9 rebounds to lead the Eagles.

BISHOP SULLIVAN (VA) 72, SEVERN (MD) 71
2019 guard Shawn Walker scored 17 points on 5 of 8 shooting to lead the Crusaders.

Bishop Sullivan 2019 guard AJ Tolentino had 16 points on just five shot attempt to go along with six rebounds and four assists.

2019 guard AJ Burch paced Severn with 18 points, seven assists, and six rebounds.

NEUMANN-GORETTI (PA) 83, DULANEY (MD) 78 3OT
2019 forward Ja’Cor Smith scored a game-high 24 points as the Saints of Philadelphia outlasted the Lions of Baltimore County in triple overtime.

Neumann-Goretti built a 20-point lead a minute before the half and led 36-20 at the break before Dulaney erased the deficit in the second half. The Lions led by as many as five with 2:02 left in regulation.

2019 guard Chris Ings had 20 points and six rebounds in a full 44 minutes for Neumann-Goretti. Dulaney 2019 forward Cameron Byers posted 19 points and 10 rebounds.

ST. ANDREWS (RI) 69, CENTRAL POINTE (FL) 65
2019 guard and Syracuse commit Brycen Goodine totaled 16 points, five rebounds, and four assists to help push the Saints past the White Tigers in overtime.

St. Andrews 2019 guard Matt Relihan had 15 points and five rebounds.

2020 guard Luis Rolon paced Central Pointe with 14 points (9 of 11 at the free throw line) and four rebounds. He set the game to overtime with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to close regulation.

VERITAS PREP (CA), LINCOLN ACADEMY (GA)
Mississippi State commit Iverson Molinar scored 24 points to lead Veritas to victory in a matchup of athletic and high-flying squads.

2019 forward Stefan Gabriel added 13 points for Veritas, which improved to 2-1 in their inaugural Governor’s Challenge trip with one game left to play Saturday.

2019 guard Mikale Stephens led the Bulldogs with 18 points, while 2021 guard Rafael Pinzon added 10.

LEGACY EARLY (SC) 67, BROOKLYN COLLEGIATE (NY) 43
2019 forward Jalyn McCreary logged 21 points and 11 rebounds to surge the Lions to a 24-point romp.

Legacy 2019 guard CJ Jamison added 15 points, four rebounds, and three assists.

2019 guard Glen Anderson led Brooklyn Collegiate with 16 points on 6 of 12 shooting.

MARET (DC) 47, ABRAHAM LINCOLN (NY) 33
2019 forward and Yale commit EJ Jarvis posted 19 points and 12 rebounds as the Frogs pulled away in the second half to down the Railsplitters.

2022 guard Tyler Hawkins scored 10 points to lead Lincoln.

BOYS LATIN (MD) 73, ABRAHAM LINCOLN (PA) 65
2019 guard Sam Grace had 25 points, 2019 guard Cameron Watts 19 and 2020 forward Jake Nichols 10 as the Lakers won to close out Day 3.

2020 guard Shaquil Bender had 18 points to lead Abraham Lincoln, which got 15 from 2019 forward Aseem Luckey and 10 from 2019 guard Emeuel Charleston.

MARYLAND-EASTERN SHORE

[GIRLS] SUSSEX TECH (DE) 47, JM BENNETT (MD) 35
2019 guard Arielle Parker had 14 points and 2022 guard Sierra Troyer 11 and 10 rebounds to lead the Ravens to an opening victory.

2020 guard Zyaire Smullen had 12 points to lead Bennett, while 2021 guard Mekara Hanson added 11.

[GIRLS]  INDIAN RIVER (DE) 40, SALISBURY CHRISTIAN (NY) 26
2019 Julia Jordan had 17 points and 17 rebounds to lead Indian River and Le’Anya Garrison added 12 points in a Bracket 4 victory.

K. Mitchell had 7 points to lead Salisbury Christian.

[GIRLS] WALT WHITMAN (MD) 49, CITY (MD) 40
2020 guard Anna Krush had 14 points and 2019 forward Leia Till had 10 points  for the Vikings.

2020 guard Mya Henson and 18 points and 8 rebounds, and 2019 guard Raquel Nicholson had 10 for the Knights.

GILMAN (MD) 65, BETHESDA-CHEVY CHASE (MD) 55
Army West Point commit Jalen Rucker scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Greyhounds to a bounceback from their narrow loss to Neumann-Goretti on Thursday.

Gilman 2019 forward Chase Drew added 12 points and 2022 guard Christian Winborne finished with 10.

2019 guard Kevin McAuliffe scored 15 points to lead B-CC. 2020 guard Elijah Wood finished with 11 and 2019 guard Tyler Groom added 10.

[GIRLS] ST. ANDREWS (RI) 63, ABRAHAM LINCOLN (NY) 43
2021 forward Ella Fiore had 14 points to lead a balanced scoring effort for the Saints in a DMVelite Showcase victory.

2019 guard Ariella Pena led the Railsplitters with 19 points.

VIRGINIA ACADEMY 60, FATHER HENRY CARR (CN) 58
The Patriots survived Carr’s potential tying shot at the buzzer to pick up a hard-fought win.

2020 guard Amir Nesbitt scored 20 points to lead the Patriots, who improved to 1-1 in this year's event and will face Veritas Prep (CA) on Saturday.

2020 guard Josh Morgan scored 21 points to lead the Crusaders.


OLYMPIC (NC) 81, SMYRNA (DE) 46
2019 guard Charles Bryson III put up 31 points and 2020 forward Josh Banks scored 20 as the Trojans routed Smyrna to close the day at UMES.

2020 guard Nahson Sylvester led Smyrna with 20 points, while 2020 guard Izaiah Credle added 15.

WICOMICO HIGH

FOREST PARK (VA) 67, CAMBRIDGE-SOUTH DORCHESTER (MD) 60
2019 forward Darryl Garib posted 26 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Bruins to victory in a Session II, Bracket 13 opener.

2019 guard Brandon Daniels added 17 points for Forest Park.

2019 guard Davion Ralph scored 24 points to lead Cambridge-South Dorchester, while 2019 guard Keyshawn Potter added 12.

DOVER (DE) 85, CESAR CHAVEZ (DC) 62
2020 guards Elijah Allen (26 points) and Eden Davis (21) helped the Senators jump out to an early lead and never look back.

2019 guard Deandre Martin had 26 points for the Eagles - going 6-of-10 from 3-point range - while 2021 guard Missiah Brown added 19.

GOOD COUNSEL (MD) 69, EASTON (MD) 46
2021 guard Bez Mbeng had 21 points to lead the Falcons to victory in Bracket 15 action.

2020 guard Bryce Walker had 12 points for Good Counsel and 2021 guard Antoine Jacks finished with 10.

2019 forward Jaedon Copper had 19 points to lead the Warriors.

PATRIOT (VA) 88, THEODORE ROOSEVELT (DC) 65
2019 guards Hagen Vandiver (23 points) and Devon Parrish (20) led the way for the Pioneers in a bracket 15 opener.

2019 guard Micko Reeves led the Roughriders with 18 points, while 2019 guard Jamal Muhammad added 16.

GAITHERSBURG (MD) 65, POTOMAC (VA) 55
2021 guard Jao Ituka posted 30 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Trojans to victory in an anticipated Maryland vs. Virginia matchup.

Gaithersburg trailed 35-30 at the half, but outscored Potomac 16-7 in the third quarter to take command. 2020 forward Chris Koeumi posted 13 points and 10 rebounds to the Trojans, while 2020 guard Jordan Hawkins had 12.

2020 guard Emmanuel White had 19 points to lead Potomac, which also got 12 points from 2021 guard Anthony Jackson.

ST. MARY'S RYKEN MD) 89, MILFORD MILL (MD) 74
2021 guard Devin Caesar scored 23 points and 2019 guard Louis Tang added 20 as the Knights beat the Millers to advance to the Bracket 17 final.

2020 guard Jules Bikoy added 17 for Ryken.

2020 guard Jermaine Goodwyn of Millford Mill (MD) had 33 on 11-of-17 shooting for the Millers. 2019 center Darius Woods added 17 and 2019 forward Derrick Shoats finished with 11.

SUSSEX TECH (DE) 88, NORTH CAROLINE (MD) 57
Skylar Johnson and Devon Reynolds each had 17 points to lead the Ravens in a rout of the Bulldogs.

Ja’Shaun Johnson had 14 for Sussex Tech, while Caleb Reid had 11 and Kevin Custis 10.

2020 guard Montreyse Deshields had 15 for North Caroline, while 2020 forward Kendron Wayman had 14 and 2022 guard Vidal Bonds 13.

JM BENNETT HIGH

POLYTECH (DE) 60, COLONEL RICHARDSON (MD) 45
2019 guard Brandon Obidike scored 15 points to lead Polytech to an opening win.

2021 guard Isaac Jones added 14 points for the Panthers and 2019 guard Cameron Frazier finished with 11.

2020 guard Diante Dickerson led the Colonels with 21 points.

MCKINLEY TECH (DC) 89, CALVERT (MD) 88
2019 guard Tervondre Williams scored 30 points and 2019 guard Daniel Allen had 23 to lead the Trainers to an overtime victory.

Williams wasn’t the only player dropping buckets, as Calvert 2019 guard Ryan Rachic poured in 33 - he went 14-of-21 from the field - and 2019 guard Melvin Davis finished with 30.

McKinley Tech 2019 forward Micah Jones had 15 points and Mark Rachic added 10 points for Calvert.

OSBOURN PARK (VA) 69, POCOMOKE (MD) 45
2020 guard Ethan Wilson dropped 33 points and hit seven 3-pointers to lead Osbourn Park to victory in their Bracket 16 opener.

2019 forward Sekai Clayton added 11 points for the Yellow Jackets.

2020 center Joseph Collins had 10 points to lead Pocomoke.

HEREFORD (MD) 60, ST. JOE'S BY THE SEA (NY) 57
2019 guard Mason Greenspan, 2019 forward Will Reider and 2019 forward Jack Callis all scored 12 points as the Bulls edged the Vikings in Bracket 16 action. 2021 guard Nick Louis added 10 for Hereford.

2020 guard Gerald Nicholson had a game-high 20 points for St. Joseph By The Sea, while John Orosz added 10.

[GIRLS] BOONSBORO (MD) 72, POCOMOKE (VA) 33
2019 guard Kaitlyn Rogers dropped 29 points on 10-of-15 shooting - including 5-of-6 from 3-point range - as Boonsboro overpowered Pocomoke in a Bracket 4 opener.

2020 forward Josie Wells added 17 points - shooting 8-of-13 from the field - for Boonsboro.

2020 guard Ajah Kellam scored 25 of Pocomoke’s 33 points.

[GIRLS] URBANA (MD) 55, NEW DORP (NY) 46
2020 guard Hannah Orens and 2019 guard Kendal Haggerty each scored 16 points as the Hawks closed the action at Bennett.

2020 forward Emma McCaskill added 10 for Urbana.

2022 forward Sydney Gomes had 21 for New Dorp.
