A look at the St. Charles (Md.) 2019 Wing

St. Charles (Md.) 2019 wing Anthony Bowman.

Versatility is a hallmark of Anthony Bowman’s game. The St. Charles (Md.) 2019 wing does a little bit of everything for the Spartans, who have their sights set on making a state title run this year.

The 6-foot-5, 195-pound Bowman’s talents were on full display at the 2018 Governor’s Challenge, as he posted 8.5 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 1.5 steals per game as St. Charles defeated Caravel (DE) and Dunbar (Md.) to win the Bracket 3 Championship at Wicomico High School.

After beating Dunbar - Bowman posted 14 points and 11 rebounds in that game - Bowman took some time to discuss his high school career, recruitment, strengths and more:

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE SEASON SO FAR?

“I think it’s going great; I think it’s going the way it should be. I mean, we took one loss but we learned from it. O’Connell at the DMV Classic [at North Point Dec. 14], that really showed us that we can be beaten and we’re human like everybody else. We’d been blowing everybody else out - 20-point wins and stuff, but we’re learning and we’re getting better every day.”

HOW IS YOUR RECRUITMENT GOING?

“I’ve still got three D-2 [offers]. I’ve got a couple of NAIA schools looking at me now - Washington Adventist (Md.), St. Andrews University in North Carolina. I’ve still go the D3’s - Nichols (MA), Dickinson (Pa.), St. Mary’s (Md.) - it just keeps expanding. I’ve got juco’s looking at me now, too. It’s a whole lot; I’m just trying to finish the season out and see where I can further my career.”

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR IN A SCHOOL?

“Just a home. I mean, it’s not really nothing [specific] to it; I want to play basketball and go to school. I don’t need a whole lot, I just want to have a place that I can call home for four years and not have to go anywhere else.”

WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER THE STRENGTHS OF YOUR GAME?

“I mean, I can do a little bit of everything. I’m not just a person who’s going to score; I’m going to play defense and get stops, share the ball and be a leader. I can do anything somebody wants me to do. I think that’s the good thing about my game”

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO WORK ON?

“I always try to work on my jumper, and just getting stronger. I’m trying to be a big guard and i need to put some more weight on. And getting faster and smarter. That’s every day - I’m going to keep trying to get better and be the best player I can be.”

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO OFF THE COURT?

“Chill with my friends. Just be a regular teenager, for real, and chill with my friends, play 2K or some Fortnite - all that. We like to chill and just be kids, for real.”

DID YOU PLAY ANY OTHER SPORTS GROWING UP?

“Football. I played Tee-ball - everybody played that - but I played football all the way up to my ninth grade year, and then I stopped and I focused on basketball.”

WHAT DID YOU PLAY IN FOOTBALL?

“I played wideout and defensive end, linebacker. I played everything - when I was little I played running back, but I’m slow now so I had to be a wideout.”

WHAT’S BEEN YOUR FAVORITE BASKETBALL MEMORY?

“For real, it’s been growing at St. Charles. I remember when I was a 10th grader, I didn’t know what was going on on the court sometimes. Now, I’m a senior and I’m seeing everything different. My whole experience with basketball at St. Charles has  been the best - I’ve learned so much and had so much fun. It’s crazy that it's about to come to an end, but I’m loving it.”
