St. Stephens & St. Agnes 2020 guard Xavier Lipscomb.
2020 guard Xavier Lipscomb has developed into a solid two-way player for St. Stephens & St. Agnes (Va.) since joining the varsity as a freshman.
The 6-foot-2, 190 pound point guard is running the show for the Saints, who have had a strong season thus far and title aspirations.
After a recent home win over Landon, Lipscomb took some time to discuss the season, his strengths and more:
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE SEASON SO FAR?
“The season’s been going great; everybody’s been locked in since Day 1. We know that this is an important season for us as seniors are about to go off to college and juniors are becoming seniors, so we just have a tenured team that wants to win everything.”
WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER THE STRENGTHS OF YOUR GAME?
“My strengths are definitely getting downhill and creating for others. I love passing the ball - I pride myself on getting assists.”
HOW DOES BEING A BIGGER GUARD HELP YOU?
“It definitely helps to see over the defense and to create shots for others. I can see where everybody is on the court so I can get them the ball and get them their touches.”
HOW IS YOUR RECRUITMENT GOING?
“I just have one offer [Navy] and some interest from other schools.”
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR IN A SCHOOL?
“Just a balance of academics and sports, basically.”
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO OFF THE COURT?
“Off the court I like to play [NBA] 2K, really. I mainly use the Bucks or the Thunder.”
ARE EITHER OF THOSE YOUR FAVORITE TEAM IN REAL LIFE?
“No, my team is the Trailblazers, but people lock up the guards so I’ve got to get Giannis.”
WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE PRO PLAYER?
“Oh, Damian Lillard is my favorite player, by far. It’s just his fluidity with the ball and how creative he is with his handle, and how we can just pull up from anywhere.”
WHAT’S BEEN YOUR FAVORITE BASKETBALL MEMORY?
“Most definitely making it to Peach Jam this past summer [with Team Durant]. It was crazy the first time KD walked in, and we were on the main court and everybody was surrounding the gym and it was crowded, basically.”
